Industry - particularly Allied

If a person, say playing Allied, doesn't touch industry...will it automatically adjust/upgrade?

i.e. does a player HAVE to get into the industry screens or will the computer manage it?

The Allied player doesn't really have to worry about the industry. It's handled automatically for the most part. But you can turn repairs and production on and off. That is helpful in some situations....GP

As the Allies, you may want to turn off the refineries in the DEI or in Australia for various reasons. The same is true for heavy industry.
Lots of pluses and minuses to the decisions but it is fun to think through the different options.
BTW you cannot turn off the production of oil or resources.

Why turn off refineries in Australia???
Refineries will shut down on their own as soon as you run out of oil and oil is useless in Australia ( you want, you need fuel)

What you need to turn off is Australian Heavy Industry because it will suck up your fuel, and you want to save that fuel for your fleet

I agree that the HI in Australia (and NZ) are the prime candidates to be shut down if fuel becomes an issue. There are only a few refineries in Australia so shutting one down might help keep the others in oil. A small point to be sure. Of course you want fuel in Australia more than oil, but oil is important to be sure.
There are sometimes possibilities to move oil from DEI locations to Australia. I know most players frown on doing that, but I believe that every bit of oil denied to the Japanese is a victory! To each his own!
If you have a choice move fuel. If you have spare tankers and oil is easily available to move, consider doing it!

Moving oil or fuel from DEI is good, but the window of opportunity is quite short, we are talking days before the IJN will make it very dangerous.
After all the tankers are more valuable than the oil , there are safer places to pick it from

There is of course the roleplaying aspect to this as well. I believe the allied player should keep all industry supplied & running, even if it may be easier to ship the ready made fuel & supplies instead of the raw materials... This should be to compensate for the supplies being so generic instead of the specific products that were produced IRL in those factories. I.e. in Australia, ammo/spare parts for weapons used by the Aussie troops that may not have been produced anywhere else. Same for vehicles etc.

This is a very important part of the decision on what you end up doing on this and other issues. If you are only looking at what is best for winning the game, I can see why you might not want to spend time moving oil from small producing locations. However, if you were actually the commander of Allied forces trying to prevent Japan from getting the oil it needs for the long haul, you just might risk some pretty good tankers to accomplish that mission.
The same can be discussed when it comes to "resources". There are many locations where these are produced. Personally, I tend to look for ways to remove them from the DEI when I have a chance to do it.
To each his own! The key is to enjoy the game.
