Will your unit learn/gain experience in the campaigns

I know there is no campaign now. But in the future will my unit gain experience as I progress through the campaign?
Ideally, yes.
I really miss the feature from when I was playing the old Steel Panthers in the the campaigns. I would love to see something like this (maybe not as detailed)
