Question on Carrier Capable and Trained

Two questions or problems I ran into.
First how do you turn Carrier Capable but not Trained into Trained?
Experience level doesn't seem to be connected to this since we start with some Capable at 50 (VMF-111) and 65 (VMF-221) in the game.
Will they train up eventually? Does this training have to occur on a carrier? That is, moving them to shore so they can full time train while in port won't help.
The second problem I ran into to is after I transferred VMF-111 to San Diego to see if land training would be any faster, they can't transfer back to the carrier. No error. When you select "Transfer to Ship" the Yorktown doesn't show up. Actually, nothing shows up. Blank list displayed.

A carrier capable unit that spends 90 days on a Carrier will become carrier trained.
Much more information is required to answer the second part of your question. A screen shot of the air unit to start would help.

And remember, carrier-capable is a characteristic of the airframe; carrier-trained relates to the squadron itself.

Greetings Kennonlightfoot! In relation to the 90 days, it's cumulative and doesn't have to be all at once. The computer keeps track of how long the unit has been on (and off and back on) a CV type ship so as to get trained up. Also it's important to stress that this is NOT about individual pilots, sad to say. It's the whole UNIT that becomes CV trained. You can not workup individual pilots to become CV trained. They have to be transferred into a CV trained unit and bingo presto, they are CV trained! I wish that wasn't the case but that's what I've seen playing this game. Not everything is a reflection of reality. The adverse impact of units not being fully trained yet operating from a CV, even in combat, doesn't seem to be excessive, so not many players worry about it. I can only assume that if the capable but unqualified "UNIT" is fatigued excessively, then due to lack of training, it's accident rate might go way up. I've not tested that however.

Thanks, that answers my first question.
I found the cause of the second question, which is probably a bug in the game. When I transferred the fighters off the Yorktown to San Diego it changed their parent HQ from Independent to West Coast. I had to "buy" them back an assign them to Pacific Fleet. Then they would transfer onto the Yorktown where, interestingly, they changed back to Independent.
Doing the same transfer from Saratoga to Pearl Harbor didn't have this problem. The fighters stayed Independent and transferred back without a problem.

As for your second question in relation to the transfer into San Diego, I've never noticed that before. Normally, as you indicate, the independent status remains. That MIGHT be unique to San Diego, but not sure, I'll have to test it. But I've often flown my CV aircraft off if the ship is going into port for any time, to continue training (this is what actually happens in real life too) and never had that problem (but I never did it on the west coast). I normally play Japan and it doesn't happen in the home islands as far as I know. So you might be right in terms of a "bug".

Odd. San Diego isn't unique and just tried transferring other groups and they remain independant so why it changed is a mistery. You could have accidentally changed it yourself?
You can only transfer once per turn. Trying to do it a second time will cause your blank list problem.

In Scenario 1, VMF-111 does not start onboard the Yorktown, they arrive at the Eastern USA base on turn 2 or 3, and they start assigned to the restricted HQ USN Fleet Air West. Did you previously pay PP to transfer them to an unrestricted HQ before transferring them to Yorktown? That would have to be done before you could then transfer them to the base at San Diego. VF-42 is the only fighter squadron that starts onboard Yorktown. They start attached to "Independent" command. Did you perhaps transfer VF-42 to San Diego and not VMF-111?
