[1.0.2.1] Member of a Minor Race Becomes Leader, Turns Invisible

Post by mrm0uflon »

Spoilers I guess?

I had the Way of the Ancients quest trigger on an Securan world I had colonized early on. I sent my leader to investigate, then got the popup telling me he'd converted to the new philosophy, and that I had unlocked the new government type and could have a revolution to switch to it. I dutifully had the revolution, and my leader was instantly killed - which made me laugh but doesn't quite mesh with the quest text. It could at least say he'd need to sacrifice himself to make it work.

Anyway, in honour of the big moment I moved my empire capital to the Securan planet (which was also the most prosperous planet I had). So when a new leader was chosen, it turned out to be a Securan - I guess it chooses the race based on the largest pop of the capital world? But since Securans aren't meant to be playable, they don't have the animated 'person in a room' pictures, so the portrait was just an uncanny stretch-to-fit version of the Securan face icon that would appear eg on a planet nameplate. I don't have a screenshot of that unfortunately, because the next time I loaded the game, the portrait was just blank, and the character icon on the planet info box is similarly nothing there:

Not the biggest thing in the world, but a bit of a shame, because it would've have been a very cool moment otherwise. I suppose until they are made playable, minor races should not be eligible to be characters. Or they could use a (properly scaled) version of the race image from the galactopedia, which at least has a background and some detail.

thanks for listening!

Interesting, the same thing happened to me, but my capital was 100% human and I got the government unlock by exploring the Sol system. No idea why I had a Securan leader too, though it is conceivable they were actually the largest pop in my empire, as they do breed like rabbits. It didn't even occur to me that the bug could be a result of Securan not being playable; I assumed they could be leaders of independents or pirates and therefore have the room and animation.

Any tech support reading this, if it is of any use, there is a save of after this happened, with the blank portrait from the "[1.0.2.1] Icon and value for happiness is higher than reported stats" thread I made a bug report in. If you want, I think I have a save from just after I changed governments. Could probably reproduce this bug from that.
