Strange source #s for Resources

Post by Justus2 »

I am seeing strange numbers for some of my construction resources, where the game is telling me I have way more actual sources, than potential sources. See below, it shows I have 6 current sources of Emeros crystals, out of a potential 3?? And in fact, I only have 2 sources with mining stations. Where are the other sources coming from?

It counts neutral planets or other empire colonies.

Yeah... but that doesn't really at all explain why it says they control 2x the amount of known sources of a resource.

This looks like it is a simple bug to me, I've never seen this before.

Lucky you, I also want to have 5d Mining with Multiverse Time Travel.

Maybe those sources are unmined ones?
Like the Construction Order Menu lists current and additionally wanted ships?

It's not un-mined planets that I've discovered, I looked through my listing of potential mining sites (trying to find additional sources of Emeros) and there are none that are currently not mined. I also don't understand why it is showing 6 of 3, when I only have 2 (both shown in the screenshot), I assumed the 3rd might be an independent colony I trade with?

I also wondered if it meant there were other sources, on planets/systems that I have discovered, but my exploration isn't high enough to reveal them yet? But that seems like a lot of excess sources.

it could be sources mined by other empires, but that would still be strange if I have not found those sources yet.

But if Independant Planets are included, that could be sources you can not mine. So they would not appear in the mining location list.

I've not given it detailed analysis, but from my games; looking at stock levels and the resources list, I inferred that sources counted every known possible mineable source on the map, including ones already mined by other empires and independents. I've never seen the first number higher than the second, either, so I assumed that the total sources also counted ones you were already mining.

Assuming those assumptions are correct, there is definitely something weird going on in that save.

I'd report more bugs if I was actually sure when something like this was a bug and not a feature, it often seems difficult to find any definitive information about this sort of thing.

Before reporting anything:
Steam Verify Gamefiles.

DW2 files break. A lot.
If you got odd behavior not encountered by anyone else, 99% chance you got a broken gamefile or 10.

I do have a few cases where Mind Locations > Known Locations.
With realy, really rare stuff. I am talking about:

Carbonite 5 of 3
Emeros Crystalls 12 of 6
Bartak Wood 3 of 0
Bfurian Silk 6 of 1
Drakhul Tentacles 3 of 1

It is actually rather common among the Luxuries.

When you pick up resources from debris pieces, it counts it as a source I think. Have you salvaged any of those resources from debris by any chance?

Also, I've noticed that trading can cause unaccounted for sources to appear, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

DW2 files "break" because user files, e.g. settings are part of the game files which get verified.

Nope.

While the settings file tends to be reset, this is not registered as a damaged file that needs to be re-aquired.

Ideally files like that should never even be inside the game directory. Butting writeable files into the game directory is so last milennium. But steam does have settings to exclude them from damage file detection.
If it finds something to redownload, those are actuall issue.
