Unable to save!

Oaky, got the thing up and running and did the next turn. Went to save it in the next slot and got a message, "unable to delete old save file" and then " Unable to save "
Not sure why this is happening!
And there are no Op reports or combat reports being saved either. What I get on the OP button on the game screen is an old Op report. And the same with the Combat report! And when i check the Save Folder, there are no op reports or combat reports there either.
Opinions? Suggestions?

Perhaps in the files attributes, read only is checked?

Right click in the files and then properties.

Or is it the save folder? To check it, right click in the folder icon.

Yes - slots 000 to 002 are reserved for automatic game functions (pre- and post-turn saves, autosave with the switch in your desktop game icon).

Okay
more fiddling around shows me that any slot that already has a game saved in it, from the file history backup is unable to be saved to. So answer is to delete all slots and leave an empty slot. Bit drastic but it works.
I know that the first three or four slots are best left to the computer to fill, although if I forget to save, I have always managed to get back to 000 to get the auto-save.
I have " -archive" switch in my switch line. That seems to provide a folder in Save with the relevant reports such as op reports, Combat reports etc, But it still defaults to an earlier game. In this case, I am playing 6 Jan and 7 Jan 44. The reports for both 6 and 7 Jan 44 contain exactly the same information and that is for a saved game for 5th Jan 44, just before my hard drive crashed.
I have "-fd" as one of my switches so that should save daily? Except it doesn't.
Again, opinions, suggestions?
Or should I just save the current game as is, no file history backup and reinstall from scratch?
for the record, I am playing against AI in Scenario 6
and my switches are
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -fd -altFont -cpu2 -multiaudio -px1920 -py1280 -deepcolor -skipVideo -dd_sw -archive

Okay, this is weird.
Somehow I have activated a folder in the Save Folder called autosave. When I go into it, it has the following file and only that file.
wpae051_#6_19440108.pws and it changes as I progress through the game turns. I can understand that the 19440108 part refers to the turn just completed. But what does the "wpae51_#6_" part of this mean?
And I noticed when I finished a turn, after all the various things like upgrade etc etc, it suddenly said autosave to slot 51. Yet when I look at slot 51 on the saved games in the game menu, there is nothing there to load. And slot 000 which was the old autosave slot is unable to load! WTF!!Yet I cannot get the autosave file in the Save\Autosave folder to open as a saved file.
I am starting to think I need a complete re-install. After saving the few games I managed to salvage to a non-file history location so they are not compressed or zipped or corrupted or whatever.
Anyone had this problem before?
And I am still not getting my current op reports. They still default to 5 Jan 44! Even though I am finishing 7th Jan. Surely the Op reports and combat reports should be done before I decide to save a turn. so they should be populating as they show up on the screen. So if I click on the OP icon on the main tool bar, it should show what has happened that turn? Not happening!
A full re-install looks necessary.

The -deepColor switch needs a capital C. Check that your -fd switch is using the hyphen from the top of the keyboard, not the minus sign from the numeric keypad. It should be saving the turn daily. AFAIK, the Archive folder is for turn-generated reports, not the turn files. I don't agree that game turn saves cannot overwrite a previous save. I do it all the time.

Okay, I'll change to a C. And I will redo all the - to make sure I haven't inadvertently used the minus sign.
Re saving, it is not that it says it cannot save, it is that it states, "cannot delete old saved file" which Presume means that when saving, it first deletes the old file in that slot and then writes the new save. Thus if it cannot delete the old slot, it may mean it cannot get a clean slot to save to? If that makes sense?

Now it gets even weirder,
I have deleted all ops reports etc from the save folder and the archive folder. None now exist. I run a turn 9th Jan 1944. Yet at the end of the turn, when I click on the OP tab, it still shows 5 Jan 44, when there are no txt files for 5 Jan 44!!

Also, it is now autosaving not in slot 000 but in the Save\autosave folder as "wpae052_#6_19440109.pws"
When I try and load a saved game from the front panel and go down to slot 52, although the slot says "saved game", it doesn't tell me what it is and, when I click on the slot to load, it says unable to load.
However, if I copy the "wpae052_#6_19440109.pws" over to the Save folder and rename it by stripping out the "_#6_19440109" part, it shows up on the front panel as a saved game with a name "1/9/44,(AutoSave)Scen#6" and can be loaded.
I can also manually save a game so long as the slot is labelled empty.

I am seriously thinking a complete uninstall and a complete re-install may be the way to go forward.

Okay
I bit the bullet, saved the three games I thought were okay and then uninstalled the whole WitPAE package. Then installed again from disk and download. Set up my switches as before.
Advantage, I now get the usual Op reports and Combat reports. The dreaded 5 Jan 44 has disappeared.
Downside! I get autosave sent to a slot in the 50 area, according to the autosave notice. But this is in the autosave folder under the Save folder and does not show up on the front panel when you look for saved games. I have to manually strip out the date and scen # then copy and paste over to the Save Folder.
I do save to a slot manually anyway so it is of no great importance. Just a quirk. Or is that a bug or a feature?
Now to wait with bated breath for the next little thing that will appear. At least I can continue with my 2 1/2 year old game without having to start from scratch. I don't think I have enough years left in me to do that.
