Need help with my first playthrough of Strategic Command

I am currently playing both Europe and World at War. Both have amazing scale and really cool events. But I would like some advice from veterans of the game.
1. France just surrendered and I have a huge army in France and no direction. I want to invade England. How can I get all my tanks across the English channel? I can't seem to find transports, how do I purchase them? Once I get transports, would I simply use my navy to clear the enemy port and land my army piecemeal? I am also research amphibious landings 2x. Will this allow my tanks to land at any coastal hex? Please let me know what I need in order to conduct operation sea lion.
If Operation Sea Lion is too difficult, what else can I do with my large army? Should I operate them all East and invade Russia? Or should I take my forces to Africa and Egypt? But how can I get down there? I can go through Italian territory? How about Budapest and Hungary? Can I walk my forces through these countries?
2. In my World playthrough, I am playing as China and I am fighting the Japanese. However, my armies do absolutely nothing against Japanese armies that are entrenched in cities. It's like a never-ending slogfest where I attack with 3 units and they just reinforce because I barely put a dent in them. I also cut off their city from their other territories, but they still have at least 5 supply. What can I do at this point? Any research I should do as the Chinese? What units can quickly make enemy infantry easier to defeat?
I have read the manual but I would like more insight as to my situation and how to make it happen. Thank you!
