Submarines do not retreat towards friendly ports. Submarines was forced to retreat toward enemy ports. Also, submarines retreated pass an open friendly port.

If this is in reference to a dive, then yes this is a bit more random than a proper naval retreat.

Dives simply prioritize trying to get away from the enemy and limiting how many units it will be adjacent to (if possible) when it dives.

At present there is no logic for dives to try and dive closer to port or to dive into port, and from memory dives into port are not possible in game.

Yes the submarine was in dive mode. But the submarines retreated pass an open friendly port. Submarines can enter ports in dive mode.

These are 3 separate elements, e.g. a Sub can be in Hunt or Silent mode, and then it may dive from an attack, whether it is in Hunt or Silent mode.

While it is true that you can enter a port in Silent mode, it is still the case that diving from an attack into a port is not currently possible.
