Unashamed gloat (The Great Irau Turkey Shoot).

Ok, it is now my turn to gloat..... the game is at the 8th of August'43 and I have been pounded by this IJN player since turn one. I have lost over 300 ships to his 100 and had a failed invasion of Port Morsby. So having suffered throught the game for so long and always behind in points....now it is my turn in the sunshine....read it and weep!

I may be wrong on the authenticity of this quote, but I believe it was Vince Lombardi who said;

"Winning is better than loosing."

Well done big fellah.

And to Luskan.

You just got to love those 2nd generation US fighters and their guaranteed 10+ to 1 kill ratios (and your incredible game play of course, Raver).

Never give up Drex.......remember, the less ships that you have sunk so far, means all the more to sink later!;)

Oh there have been a few wins already....and a lots of losses as well.....one of which was a very public loss as the IJN in a AAR.

The funny thing is, I seem to have the most trouble in games against my fellow countrymen. Of all the games that I have lost they have ALL been to fellow Aussies. This game is my FIRST win against an Aussie player:cool:

I'd have to agree with that Raver - I'm having much more problems with aussies that kiwis/yanks/other.

I'm 2 losses and 8 wins - the other loss was a scn 17 all the way to december that actually came down to the wire - was bloody close but I ran out of steam, transports, soldiers, ships, planes, hell everything, so i couldn't advance, and my opponent had transports and nothing else.

This is my first "disastrous" loss - six months and Raver would ahve been ahead by 5000 points - he was level with me after sinking all IJN CVs on the OOB bar two the CVEs in Tokyo (and sinking them all in 1 3-turn CV battle without loss is something that you've got to blink at).

However both these losses are against fellow aussies, while the wins are all against overseas opponents. Does that make me the worst aussie player ?????? :(

My USN games are actually faring much worse than my IJN games at the moment, although I'm confidently expecting that I'll win at least 4 out of the 6 other games I'm playing - maybe even 5 out of 6. Can only see myself definitely loosing against 1 particular opponent - but he is a yank so I'm expecting that God will intervene on my behalf. :D

Hi, This is because beer makes you smart. (good beer does)
Americans ether drink bad beer or no beer hence the poor performance. Myself I drink Pilsner Urquell (really good beer) or St. Pauli Girl (better then any American beer)
I'll have to try an Aussie PBEM game to test this theory
(If correct it should result in a hard fought exciting draw)

I am undefeated

I have won eight games of scenario #17. (3 Japs and 5 Allied)
I am currently playing in three scenario #17 (1 Jap and 2 Allied).

For the first time since hanging around on these boards I can actually answer a question with confidence!

Not a chance Luskan, at least not while I am hacking my way through PBEMs....:(

If my Opponent stops responding to me and therefore quits, but I'm behind on points, does that make me the winner?

Posted: Mon Jun 30, 2003 6:32 pm
by Drex
Yes it does. If your opponent surrenders (quits) then points are thrown out. Use the chess analogy: He has taken more pieces but you have checkmated him. He knows that in the time left to play you will overtake the point difference anyway.

By that definition, I have 5 more wins!

See, you're better than you think you are.

Drex, I don't know... it's sometimes like playing chess, taking some pawns and then your opponent goes to the closets and never come back. Never seen that (and I play in pubs with people I have often never seen before).

I had someone quit a game and disappear after (because ?) he lost 4 US CV (and their airwings) in two battles in June-July 1942. At the time I had not attacked any big base. I had definetly not won this game yet, in fact I was more losing than anything: I had four CV and one CVL damaged enough to go back to Japan (> 50 SYS), it was a 100% IJN scen 17.

Actually in the same time, I'm a worst position in an US PBEM regarding CV (but I sank enough TK and AO to slow down the Japanese juggernaut). I suffer but that is exciting.

If your opponent quits after admitting defeat for this and that reason, it's a win. If he just disappears in the building phase of the game (5 first months) because he lost too much CV, it has just been a waste of time (or a training session).

Amiral Laurent: let's leave the chess analogy for the moment. If your opponent picks up his marbles and goes home (how about this analogy?) then its because you have demoralized him and destroyed his will to fight. You have won a victory just as sure as if you went down to Dec 31,1943. It may not be as exciting or fun but its a victory none-the-less. When I lost my 5 CVS to Soulblazer in mid '42 and had to sent the 6th back to Pearl(where she still is in Oct.43) I was seriously demoralized and briefly considered quitting. But I soon overcame that feeling. Demoralization is an important factor in war and it is just another weapon in your arsenal.
