As Acktarians, why do Advanced Star Fighters still require the previous inferior fighter tier 4 techs even if you have researched the superior race specific Actarian tier 4 fighter techs.

After researching Fast Interceptors and Fast Bombers (race specific), you then still have to research the other, non-race specific tier 4 techs before getting the tier 5 fighters.

Is that right? Seems wrong to me.

It's a known bug (Matrix/CodeForce have a log of it). Where the tech tree should implement "you need X or Y" it actually implements "you need X and Y".

It's just not a priority to fix right now, there are more pressing issues to come first. I'm 100% positive it will be resolved with time though.

Is this the issue I'm having (playing as humans)? Hard to see, but I can't research Advanced Star Fighters because I have to research "Attack Fighters" (even though I can't even find that tech):

Cubano and MatBailie just to be clear while I do agree that it shouldn't be that way (and there's a few other places in the tech-tree where this kind of thing happens) it isn't a bug that it currently does work that way. It is as designed for the time being.

In this thread I've made an example of how I think it should probably work.

scotten_usa your issue is not quite the same thing, in your case the prerequisite path from "Attack Fighters" to "Advanced Star Fighters" has generated but one of the ones leading to "Attack Fighters" has not. Most likely this is the one from "Light Attack Fighters". This means that even though you do require Attack Fighters for the Advanced Star Fighters tech, you can't see it or research it. Again this is as intended, but it should probably be made a bit more clear to the player as to what's going on there.

You may be able to grab it from salvage, theft or events though. Either Attack Fighters or Advanced Star Fighters would do the job.
