Folks, need some advice on how to eliminate a faction - or if it is even possible.

I have fought a couple wars against a faction and in the last war finally conquered the last of their colonies. However, the diplomacy screen shows they still exist (I can interact with them) and shows their 'home/capital' planet as the last colony I conquered - this after quite a bit of game time. They still have a few fleets and civ ships floating around.

So how do I eliminate them? Or can we only eliminate pirate factions?

Report it as a bug with a savegame. They are supposed to be removed when loosing the last planet.

There might be a chance they can resurge if the planet rebels. But generally taking all planets should be a death sentence for the empire. You should even gotten any (or most) remaining mining Stations, Private Ships and Military Ships when taking the last planet.
