Rule on Properly Constituted Units

Does the rule that it is impossible for *single* corps or armies to attack properly constituted and dug in defenders, cited on page 42 of the manual under the Section 'Tactics and Other Hints on Play', still apply?

As a result of this rule, I spend the first turn of the game reorganizing many of my korps to ensure that a Panzer Korps has at least two Panzer or SS Divisions, one Motorized Division, and an artillery unit, and that an Infantry Korps has at least two Infantry Divisions, an anti-tank or Assault Gun unit, and an artillery unit. Still, it does not seem to stop the Soviets from hurling their Armies in seemingly suicidal counterattacks on my troops.:confused

Could someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

That passage isn't a rule, just a suggestion for tactics. In the right situation, especially early on in the 1941 campaign, a single strong German korps can beat just about anything the Soviets have. It just varies depending on the situation, but the idea is that a strong entrenched defender will stop any single attacker in most cases.

Thank you for your clarification, RickyB. Still, it may be prudent to reconstitute the German Panzer and Infantry Korps in preparation for the great Soviet Winter Counteroffensive of 1941/2, when one could expect some visits from the T-34s. Although I encountered no major Soviet Counteroffensive during the blizzards in my first game, I am expecting a much more difficult time with Possum 6 due to the more unfavorable, and more historical IMHO, conditions for the Axis player.
