Where it is burning, is the site of the Kalibr and Shtil-1 missiles? And the antisubmarine RBU-6000 Smerch-2.

Ok, what's the deal, in CMO I have to fire 20 ASM's at modern soviet capital ships to even have a sniff of a chance of getting a hit. Have we all been over estimating anti missile capabilities in real world action.

I assume the USN must test against modern ASM's to see if they can survive a similar attack on lets say a burke class, are there any real reports on how it or other navies ships are fairing in this type of testing? or is it classified to us in the outside world?

rant ended.

Weird video. The silhouette as a whole looks like 11356. But note the observation radar antenna on the foremast. One curtain, strongly elongated horizontally. Whereas Makarov's antenna is square and shifted clockwise in the vertical plane. No horizontal "rails" on the mast can be seen.
But in general the situation is not clear. In the last two days several Ukrainian TB-2s and one Su-24 were shot down near the island. Ukraina claims to have destroyed Tor SAMs on the island.

A certain white spot can be seen on the luff of the ship. Probably a number. Whereas Russian ships since the beginning of the war have been running with painted numbers.
Summary. The ship is most likely damaged. The video is a fake.

Might be fake, but its not the Sheffield. The fire on the Sheffield was mid-ships. The video shows it well forward. And the slope on the hanger to the helicopter deck is straight and shallow on the Sheffield. The videos shows a structure relatively tall compared to the rest of the substructure and has a pronounced slope.

Also note that in this pic, the angle of the pic makes the radar look like the bedstead radar on a Type 42.

WOW! Looks like FLIR imagery which is why it's grainy (I know most of you know that). Looks like an Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate to me.

You do have to wonder if the Russian systems in the game are over estimated.

At this point, you have to wonder whether the Russians can successfully force the Dardanelles and Bosporus to reinforce the remains of the Black Sea Fleet. Turkey closed them to the non-Black Sea Fleet portion of the Russian Navy.

Well that would mean war with NATO. They can't handle the Ukraine, I suspect even Putin realizes that would be utterly foolish.

Straits were closed according Montreaux convention for any fleet. This is not about NATO.

I guess if I were in Saint Petersburg, I might have your viewpoint.

Listen this is really extremely easy for the Russians/the Black Sea Fleet to debunk. All they need do is bring a Western press pool of reporters and neutral military observers (India, Israel?) to Sevastopol and show them two intact Admiral Grigorovich Class Frigates (the Admiral Grigorovich being in the Med). Want to bet that NEVER happens?

IMHO it just doesn't make sense for the Ukrainians, who are winning the information war outside of Russia, to doctor this and lie about something so easily disproved. Of course it's possible the Russian Navy had another, "accidental fire in the magazine." of one of their ships, but then what does that say about their competence?
