3.8.7 in the manual has a few pages explaining the basics. It ends with this.

More information about the Campaign Series Event Engine, the Lua scripting, and the Scripted AI will
be provided in a separate document at a later date.

There is also 'lua_functions_reference.txt' in the manuals folder. I found this too, it looks like a good place to get started?

The full lua manual isn't completed yet.

As HappyHedonist suggests, I did provide some help with the lua scripting in the manual as very basic introduction.

There will be more documents coming and I'll do some videos on it as well.
