I'm NOT trying to start a political discussion or rehash things. I'm just posting this as information for anyone who may have deployed for the Gulf War in 1991 or anyone who knows anyone who did.

From BBC: "US scientists say they have discovered what caused thousands of soldiers who served in the 1991 Gulf War to fall sick with mysterious symptoms. They have pinned the blame on the nerve agent sarin, which was released into the air when caches of Iraqi chemical weapons were bombed."

Sounds like speculation. Wouldn't there have been intel on many Iraqis suddenly dying in the area? Surely there was some security on the stockpiles?

...we dont know how many were assigned to chem disposal detail. We do know Saddam had and used sarin on the kurds earlier- as this was well documented at the time.On a tip (years ago) I searched VA hospital public database and confirmed treatment for exposure to neuros was provided. What makes sense to me is the secrecy involved, denial of finding wmds, because...they were found and buried somewhere. It was necessary to accept public humiliation and blame to keep folk from hunting for them and need to provide security at the site. It was anticipated troop withdrawal would be imminent. Europeans, esp. East-euros seem to be more accepting of this scenario

As I recall Saddam used blister agent, not nerve agent on the Kurds. At least in the late 80's.
