The japs cant get far (behind the city) before china has 3 additional corps right there on the line defending the city. It was going to be hard enough with just the 1 corp in the city. I have 3 corps, special forces and an army but that is not near enough. Any tps/thoughts?
Thx

ok so loaded up all the units on naval transports that could reach the Nanning area next turn, also moving the air units there. I will see if that is what makes the difference.

Yes it's tough to take it but you have to replace the Kwangtung army with garrison units in Manchuria, once you have all those units moved and upgraded, it becomes a lot easier to take Nanning. Also invest in logistics and command and control - both finished research on the same turn in my game, then China suddenly became a lot easier. I bought an extra artillery unit but no tanks. The aircraft need upgrading, and you need to buy a garrison unit almost every turn. The carriers can also help with the aerial bombardment, especially after they are upgraded. It was really hard to get Nanning surrounded, but that should be your goal.

The answer is yes - but I've found it is better to ship the HQ elsewhere and take Nanning from the east.

Just hold Pakchoi with the local troops that start there and wait for the rest of the Japanese to arrive later in the game.

I generally find it relatively easy to take. You need to have upgraded to level 1, army, SF, and 2 corps. Use med bomber to reduce entrenchment and morale, follow with Tac bomber reduce morale, then your attacks with army and SF with be effective and get rid of rest of entrenchment. This allows corps to attack and use upgraded carriers on bombers to give you 6 strikes against no entrenchment and severely reduced morale unit which often is enough to destroy. Often i leave 1 corp as a reserve to finish off or to move into Nanning. If fails not quite getting there repeat next turn. I usually aim to do this turn 4 for Japanese. You do need good weather.
