Multi questions from a beginner about Pacific War

Hi, guys

This is the first time that I get familar with the game. It's really a great game of real war strategy simulation. I played War in Russia before. It seems Pacific War is much more complex than WIR. I can't find anything like user manual in the software to guide me through. Plus, I can't use mouse in this game under windows 2000.

 So does anyone know if there are some basic introduction and user manuals about this game? Just for starting off the game. I also wonder if there are some other versions of the game, or this version is the highest and best to play. Is there any new version coming soon? And how's the design group, what are they consisted of? Where do they get pay? Where are they and what's the lastest news.

I'm from China and I wanna introduce this game to Chinese war fans~~~ ;) If there are some manual, I might be able to donate my time to translate it into Chinese. Good game must be share with everyone, right?

Thanks in advance

:)

Welcome aboard! I've converted the original tutorial to the unit and place names in 3.2. You can access it here:
http://fett.ethz.ch/~spindler/pacwar/Tutorial-3.2.html.

The original manual of the game is still available in the older downloads. Unfortunately it is not really up to date with all changes that occured, so make sure you someday read the various changes and tip files included in the game.

I hope you enjoy the game, it really is a classic.

The manual is available in the version 3.0 download as the file "manual.pdf". (You'll need Acrobat Reader to use it.) Also, the data card with several rules that weren't included in the original manual is in the version 3.1 upgrade as a ".doc" file.

It's odd that you can't use the mouse--are you using a USB port mouse that doesn't support DOS?

I found it, thanks a lot

My mouse is just a normal one, not using USB port.
Actually my mouse does exist in the game, but just the mouse cursor is invisible. I can click it and it does work except the fact that I can not see the mouse cursor on the screen.
So I'm used to struggle to play War in Russia without using mouse~~~ It seems like nobody can solve the problem. (Same problems in many DOS-Based games on my computer)

Are you playing id Dos promt window or under "plain" DOS? If later, you need to load mouse driver for DOS to use your mouse. You can try to load mouse driver for DOS even if you play under Dos promt window, it realy sound like you windows mouse driver isn't working properly in DOS.

I've tried both ways. In pure Dos, everything works properly after I run the mouse drive.

But in Dos promt window, the mouse cursor doesn't show up no matter whether I load the mouse drive or not in windows2000. (I can move the mouse and select the right spot. Just can't see where the mouse cursor is !)

Check out my previous reply post on 30 May 2003 regarding manuals. In that post, I attached PACHINTs which can help one understand the mechanics of PACWAR.
