You also have Scout missions versus Explore missions for your exploration ships. Scout means just quickly visit systems to get a basic idea of planet types, whereas Explore means a detailed scan of all items in a system. The automation settings for exploration ships include Auto-Explore and Auto-Scout settings (in addition to the default Fully Automate and Manual Control options).
It's not a new feature and the behaviour was mentioned before but within a thread about how Auto-Exploration works.Miravlix wrote: Sat Mar 12, 2022 8:36 pm [...]
Auto-scout unfortunately suffers from all the ships heading to the same system (And they all get the wait around part, so they will still be synced when going to the next system), but you actually may want to use auto scout over auto explorer/full auto and then cherry pick what system you explore and force many scouts to do the big asteroid systems.
Fresh starts offer opportunities to test features you haven't tested before. At this point only the home system is (mostly) explored and basic information is known about the system the constructor is heading to. No near systems have been explored. You'd think that two explorers set to Auto-Scout Systems would head to different unknown systems. Turns out they all head toward the nearest unknown system.
The problem persists until the first explorer reaches the next system before the second explorer reaches the previous system. Otherwise, both follow the same path, making the subsequent explorer obsolete. This may seem like only an initial problem, but it will recur whenever multiple explorers on Auto-Scout Systems warp to the same unknown system from different systems.
