AAR/refuel settings for the whole scenario

Hello guys,

I would like to review my AAR settings for the whole scenarios.
I'm still fighting to get good overall settings and I would love to hear some tips and tricks from you.

>>>
Assumptions:

>> Doctrine

 Refuel Allow
 Pick nearest tanker
 Using Bingo fuel for RTB calculations

>> MAP

 1x CVN group: planes AA/AAR/AG loadouts
 40Nm from CVN > Few ASW missions (mission doctrine Refuell Not Allowed)
 280Nm from CVN > AAR mission (mission doctrine: refuel Inherited)
 290 Nm from CVN > Support mission for gathering AG sorties before strike/s (mission doctrine: refuel Inherited) – let’s cal lit „Marshall”
 300Nm from CVN > Patrol CAP mission (mission doctrine: refuel Inherited)
 400Nm from CVN > Strike Area for AG (mission doctrine: refuel Inherited) - no specific mission just a zone

To make it simple let’s assume:

 one axis from CVN to Strike Area
 range for final strike is long enough that I need to refuel while RTB to reach base/CVN

>> Missions refuel options:

< Pick tanker from mission „AAR”
< Launch without tankers
< Enroute refuelling: OFF
< MIssion specific fuel to trigger: 5
< Receiver’s radius for refuel: AUTO

>> Intercept/AG Strike executions:

I cancel „Marshall”/CAP mission from a plane/flight and do most of the things manually with micromanagement and manual Waypoint routing

>> Main goals for AAR that I want to achieve:

 Refuel low fuel state planes on CAP patrol mission

 Have my planes to use bingo calculations based on range to AAR mission instead of range to base/CVN

 Refuel AFTER executing AG/Intercepts and then head to base/CVN (ideally only with the amount of fuel to reach base/CVN)

>> Problems:

 AAR planes flying to their AAR mission area are refueling planes enroute (I want them only refuel in AAR mission area)

 Planes returning to base/CVN with RTB command (auto or manual) using tankers (from AAR mission or those enroute) when it is not needed to reach base/CVN

I would love to her from you guys what could I do better.

How do you arrange your settings for the whole operation?

.

I'm a bit new so I'm still learning myself. I'll be following this thread to hear what others say.

I was thinking though, I do have an option to solve your second problem.

I was reading in another thread about making a "Safe RTB" mission, it was in regard to making a mission that stopped aircraft from climbing to high altitudes or entering SAM areas, but it can absolutely be configured to prevent aircraft from refueling during RTB.

Below is a quote on how to set up this mission: Credit to forum user "Tcao": "Setup a support mission, let's call it "safe RTB". Reference points are outside the SAM's range. Disable everything, auto evasion, bingo fuel RTB, Weapon RTB. But click one time mission and single loop. In this case the aircrafts will heading to the support mission zone, pass through the reference points then mission is over, and they are heading back to base."

You'd basically adjust the mission above with "Unrep" turned off and assign aircraft who have completed their missions, or you want to RTB to this mission. It's a bit more micro work and there may be an easier way to do this so we can wait and see what some of the other folks say.

I don't think I've actually had problem number 2 on your list happen before though...

I'll need to retest aircraft and refueling behavior for RTB,I don't think I've ever seen an aircraft refuel while RTBing (Especially if they were not RTBing due to fuel) when they did not need the fuel to get back home. I could be remembering wrong but I'm pretty sure this has just never been an issue. IIRC the sim basically says, "Ok they are RTB and have enough fuel to make it, ignore the tankers." It would be interesting to see a save of when this is happening. Unless of course, I'm just remembering completely wrong.

A few of your other goals sound like they are going to need some creative execution or LUA to at least simulate some of what you're asking to do, (things like basing Bingo calculations on something else, bingo is exclusively always used for home-return/bingo field calculations afaik) I won't comment on those as I'm not educated enough on the subject and we have some awesome scenario designers around here that hopefully jump in.

It would be really helpful if you just posted your scenario. It's difficult to reconstruct it in our heads based on that (or any) info.

Do you have large tankers, or are you talking about USN "buddy" tankers?

Don't forget that you can now save and load ROEs/Doctrines in the new beta. Being able to swap saved formations on the fly might offer some help also.

I will try to make a save and post it.

I have buddy tankers in that mission. Is there a differrence ?

Yes, probably.
