repairing bridges wacht am rhein / frozen units?

I am 2nd turn into the campaign and it has now become clear that the starting engineers max their points to the number of units present. To make matters worse I know realize that the frozen units are not on a timer and they are "waiting for bridge repair". So question is lets say i would have repaired one of those bridges the first turn using a card would those units now be unlocked? How are you guys repairing the bridge the only thing i can think of is maybe taking some of the engineer units and combining them into 1 big bridge repair crew and send them up and down the map. I'd rather not start over because the first turn took me about 2 hours, am i correct on how bridge building works? and how crucial is that first turn did i stall my advance by much. Thanks

I have done some testing since the post, and it seems if on turn 1 you move the 677 pioniere abteilung in the south and move them to the 212 pioneire at Echternach, then do a transfer of pioneire to the 212 maxing them out at 300 they will have enough to repair the main rd to echternach on turn 3.
Use the card on turn 1 to repair the bridge at Gemund, turn 2 use card on stolzenborg and that unlocks the 2 frozen units lehr and the other one.
So with that information i guess i will be taking a do-over on my first turn, i hate to scum like that but the rules were not clear and no i did not read the manual whole manual but i will take a closer look so i understand the rules better.

IMHO it should be the total number of engineers in a hex not in the unit that determines the bridge repair. I have run into a similar problem in the Dasburg area.

Not sure how "fun" it is to have to mentally calculate future engineering point values, i don't have an alternative solution to this and i do like the idea of individual units being able to build bridges. Engineers in a hex would be good although everyone would just stack a bunch of engineers on all the large bridges and repair them asap, that would probably force everyone to use gamey tactics when repairing bridges

If the engineer does not move it accumulates engineer points every turn and the assumption is that the bridge repair/building is in progress. When it has enough points the repair button on the unit sidebar becomes active and you can do the bridge build. This will entail waiting 2 or three turns to get the requisite points at the beginning of the campaign along the Our and Sauer rivers, but the bridges over the XL River in the 212.VGD sector in the SE will not be available until the first night turn (turn 4) as the cost there is 300 and 400 engineer points.

The bridge cards are assumed to be Front/strategic assets and work separately.

So if I play a card to repair the bridge at Dasburg on Turn 1 the 2pz Div is still frozen Turn 2?
Is this correct?

These are the kinds of things that should be abstracted out imo. You are making the people who know how to do it do a chore and you are adding a lot of frustration and confusion to those who don't.
