How do you know which one is a non-ocean hex?

This is by the light blue color of the sea, correct? I have a small doubt because I just realized there are three colors.

The darker one is the ocean. What about the two other ones? Are they non-ocean hexes?

From what I can see...most of the light blue hexes are telling you if a Sub is there they can be attacked by surfaces since there is an adjacent hex that has land in it.

But I see dark blue hexes like that so suspect the color changes are just for esthetics.

I made few tests. In fact, the darker is ocean. The two lighter blue levels are non-ocean. Meaning subs can be indeed attacked by surface ships, DD in particular.

And, I think the sea levels are not correctly respected for sub warfare in the current scenario. The East China Sea has NEVER been the ocean, never, even in 1941. The game must reflect the correct sea level and how it was dangerous for US subs to operate there.

I would like few changes here if possible:
  • East China Sea must be in the intermediate lighter blue to reflect the shallow waters. This will allow Japanese DD group to be more dangerous and indeed attack them.
  • Sea of Okhotsk must be in the intermediate lighter blue in the North of it. See the above satellite map.
  • And, you know how I like place names and geography ;), could you please add a blue label named Sea of Okhotsk?

Also, for the South China Sea convoy line, here are the real sea levels:

I would like few changes here also if possible:
  • South China Sea must be in the intermediate lighter blue to reflect the shallow waters until a line from Saigon to Sarawak going through the Riau Islands.
  • Could you please add a blue label named Sulu Sea?
  • Could you please add a blue label named Celebes Sea?
