I deployed a coastal defence unit in hex 187,76 twice and both times it disappeared. The first time I thought it might be because I moved a ground unit from the hex. After that I made sure there was a ground unit in the hex. This turn the coastal defence is gone again. Does the weather have something to do with it as well since the weather in that hex is cold.

I did a hot seat test using the 1944 campaign. Move German units out of coastal defence hexes. Next German turn the coastal defence units were still there.
In our PBEM game is April 40 so the Russians are not yet at war. Is that why the coastal defence disappeared from the hex?

Does sound like a bug.

Thanks, I see that the link you provided indicates that Alvaro replied to this back in January and said he would look in to it. It appears the bug is still there. Alvaro, is this going to be fixed in the next update? I have a number of coastal defence units queued up in my PBEM game.

I can't figure out why this is happening.

I spent a good amount of time tracking it down.

There are a lot of checks on when a resource gets damaged. Can't find why this is happening just like why on rare occasions a title in a combat result doesn't appear. It's like impossible for it NOT to appear.

I'll take a look at it again. Maybe I missed something.

Alvaro, can you let me know if this will be fixed in the next update? If not I won't be building any more coastal defence units. Unfortunately I already have a number of them in the queue.

Where does this happen and with what country when?

Like Germany defenses in german controlled areas I can't replicate.

I know there is an issue with Neutral Russia and these.

Yes the issue is with Russia which is neutral. I placed one in the hills hex just southwest of Leningrad and it vanished. I will wait until Russia is at war to deploy all the ones I have queued up. I assume that it won't be an issue once Russia is in the war.

Ok that is the odd one that I can't find a reason why it is doing this.

Usually when I come across an odd bug like that I can't figure out I wait till next patch. That way I can give it a fresh perspective.

Did you find out a working solution for next patch?

why are you guys building coastal defense for USSR? don't they only defend against attacks from coastal hexes? ie amphibious assaults which almost never happen on the eastern front? or are they just defenses and defend everywhere? in which case I need to build some!

Yes, I would also like to know too. I thought they were meant to protect from an attack coming from a BEACH hex only. So it is only useful to build a coastal defense resource in a hex with one or more adjacent BEACH hexes. Am I wrong?

And does the coastal defense resource defense multiplier only work against attacks coming from a BEACH hex or also from other hexes (inland hexes). In other words, does it in fact provide a 360 degrees defense multiplier? That would not make sense; the moment a coastal hex is attacked from behind, the bunkers are facing the wrong way and are useless.

I don't remember if I did. I think not because of an issue of control.

Control like what I have in the computer game is very difficult to navigate.

Maybe I made a mistake reading the rules. My goal was to help the defence of Leningrad. But, since the coastal defence is removed by this bug, I have never tested to know if this is a good idea or not.

From the manual: Coastal Defense— Reduces attacks that come from coastal and beach hexes.

Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the case? I mean, no reduction against attacks coming from NON coastal/beach hexes?

I placed coastal defence units in selected hexes and then attacked them in a hot seat "game" to test if the defending Russian units received the coastal defence modifier.

Hex 196,43 attacked from 195,43 196,44 and 197,43 - received the coastal defence modifier of 1.25

Hex 201,43 attacked from 200,44 - received the coastal defence modifier of 1.25

Hex 187,76 attacked from 187,75 and 187,76 - received the defence modifier of 1.25

In all three example none of the attacker's hexes were beach hexes. In the first example by Sevastopol none of the three hexes were even coastal hexes.

So basically this is a hedgehog fortress, defending in all directions. The only restriction is, that you can only build it in a coastal hex.

Thanks for testing this. I never used them. Maybe I should, hehehe.

I bet that the same thing applies to the Maginot line hexes for example. Direction of attack does not matter, the defense bonus applies to the hex.

Thanks for the test, so this is a good idea finally.

Just remove the placement restriction (any hex will do) and call it a fortified position. Remove the resource when the hex is taken by an enemy unit.
