TOE/ Army Organisation

In my opinion the biggest potential of this games can be found in military organisation. Right now increasing "size and complexity" only increases size and in effect reduces complexity.

As a game mechanic I think it is lacking because i dont see a real advantage in making bigger units to stacking more smaller units. For sure fewer leaders are needed and the concentric bonus for more sub units is a nice thing. On the other hand its a huge loss of flexibility compared to more subunits. For me it is also immersion breaking to just bloat my brigades.

I would absolutely love a system where a real army organsiation is slowly developed starting with your first battalion of slug thrower regular infantry. This would also fit well to the game theme.

A brigade right now is a HQ with 5 "slots" for a predefined unit type and two "slots" for other (support) unit types. Why not just produce the HQ once you have fitting independent subunits and/or enough resources to create them? This brigade can then operate either combined as a brigade (I absolutely hate "group move") or broken up in battalion subunits. The support unit slots are restricted (no heavy arty and no medium or heavy tanks for infantry brigades).

Once you have enough fitting brigades the next bigger formation is created by building a (researched) formation HQ. The brigades remain as the are (and can be broken up if needed) but the new formation (better called a division not a corps) provides additional support slots (heavy arty and other stuff) and other bonus effects (logistics, leader rolls).

The logistics inherent to units (pickup from logistic networks) could be a function of the HQ in the form of organic trucks. This fits well in the existing system and opens new possibilities like air attacks on logistic networks (HQs).

Divisions can be attached to corps once researched. A corps could function as a depot (pickup point for stored supplies and fuel) and provide additional trucks and the biggest arty. Armies are already there in the form of SHQs.
