Salvaged Pirate Leaders

Playing version 1.0.4.9... so I destroyed the pirate base and in the escape pod were their fleet captain/commander and a scientist. During repair/refuel back at my main spaceport they disembarked my ship and now just sit in the spaceport. Now, as per an older discussion in the FAQ Megathread (in March, page 28), the game currently does nothing with these leaders and their stats are not applied to my side.
I would kindly like to ask Eric if there are any plans to change/expand these mechanics in the future? It would be kinda cool to bring them back into the game in some capacity. As is, it's a bit bland and pointless to go after the escape pods. But it could add a bit of extra flair to get them somehow involved again after capture. Thanks for the excellent game and continued support!
