Studying the actual war has changed the way I play

I know a lot of people are going to read this and say "Duh" but it's very true! I was interested in the Pacific Theater, so I picked up the game, but I admittedly didn't know much about it. I've been reading the Ian Toll trilogy on the Pacific War and I know much more about the war now. While reading, I actually stopped at parts and thought about how this info would help me in the game. For instance, it is discussed that Ghormley had to be removed as commander during Guadalcanal because he just wasn't up to it. I entered the Guadalcanal scenario as the Allies and checked Ghormley's leader ratings, and sure enough, he is terrible in-game as well, although I think his political rating should have been higher because he was FDR's friend which was the only reason he stayed so long. Also, I've learned that I need to put aggressive leaders in charge of subs, and many more things! If you have this game but don't know much about the Pacific Theater, I highly suggest studying up on the war, it will greatly increase your enjoyment!
