And the first DLC would bring the bishop.
The second DLC would bring the queen.
And the third DLC would bring a brand new move, never seen before, castling short.

Then, the community will develop the castling long since the developers would have stop investing in the game since long.

And "Gary Grigsby's Chess": 256x256 squares chessboard plus a "off-map" Go board for the PTO.

And percentage kill chances - e.g.

Queen vs pawn = 90%
Pawn vs queen = 10%

Fischer Random Chess (a/k/a Chess960)

Thank Hellen - I looked it up to save others:

Fischer random chess, also known as Chess960, is a variation of the game of chess invented by the former World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer. Fischer announced this variation on June 19, 1996, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fischer random chess employs the same board and pieces as classical chess, but the starting position of the pieces on the players' home ranks is randomized, following certain rules. The random setup makes gaining an advantage through the memorization of openings impracticable; players instead must rely more on their skill and creativity over the board.

Randomizing the main pieces had long been known as shuffle chess, but Fischer random chess introduces new rules for the initial random setup, "preserving the dynamic nature of the game by retaining bishops of opposite colours for each player and the right to castle for both sides".The result is 960 unique possible starting positions.

I had a copy of Chessmaster when I was younger so this thread only makes me think: "What do you mean if? I had it!"

I had played in the early 90s vs a friend's Kasparov chess machine or something like that. Lemay is indeed right: AI's are amazing. I wish wargames had something as good and competent. Maybe the next sophisticated AI generation, the one that will annihilate us and take over the world :D

AI is Amazing? I have chess books with openings that go beyond 15 turns, so as long as you stick to those, there is really not much thought. One might even say that was cheating, running such a scripted AI :P

On a side note I had a friend who enjoyed playing g2-g4 against any Chess computer. They really never had an idea what he was up to.
