While doing some research on the ships receiving lesser attention in the game, specifically the cargo vessels, I saw that the Liberty ship John Burke was sunk off Mindoro in 1944. Googling a bit more I came across this video of the actual incident.

The John Burke was carrying ammunition when struck which resulted in the horrific explosion seen in the video.
