To be honest, I would go the other way : remove individual subs' names and put flotilla or squadron with numbers (depending of the country's organisation). It is ok that a flotilla or TF lead by capital ship takes its name, but it is strange for squadrons of many of the same type of ships like DDs or submarines.

I always take some time at the start of a game to rename by sub units to X flotilla or Y squadron. Fells, for me at least, more historical and immersive.

There, I said it finally! Was keeping that inside for a couple of years!

I do something very similar with submarines. They get renamed SubFlot 1, SubFlot 2, etc. With destroyers it's DesRon 1, DesRon 2, etc. I'm tempted to try CruDiv for cruisers in the future.

I would do the same but since the game is already like this, adding more names would be nice.
