AI assitant following user ADs... not

I though when I set ADs(in this case I talk about recon Air directives each with one AOG assigned) the AI will do its best to follow them. But after processing the ADs with the AI I see that it just scraped a lot of them and placed new ones in off which a lot do not make much sense to me.
What now makes even less sense is that, after processing the ADs without the AI, I see a lot of my ADs marked brown and showing zero ACs, but sorties are listed and new units were uncovered, so obviously the AD was flown and worked out to some degree.
So it seems I didn't meat the "expectations" of the AI, despite my ADs working, but what are these???

If you have the AI assist box checked in the game preferences you are handing everything over to the AI and it will ignore everything you set during the air phase in terms of ADs etc and will just do its own thing.

If you have the AI assist button unchecked then you have control over the ADs but if you set them all up and then press the 'in game' AI assist button it will get rid of your set up and replace it with its own.

So you roughly have the following options:

1) Let the AI do everything in terms of the air and ignore it - use the AI air assist check box in the preferences.

2) Let the AI mostly manage the the air war with the option to adjust the created ADs or even delete them and create your own with the available aircraft after the AI has moved them. Have the Air Assist button in the preferences unchecked; press the 'in game' AI assist button, change or create new ADs and then run the Air Phase, without pressing the AI assist button again as it will get rid of what you have done and will create its own ADs.

3) As number 2 but with more control over air unit placement - move your air units around the map and in and out of the the reserve as desired, press the in game AI assist button, then adjust the ADs/assignments

4) Total control of the air war - do it all yourself - keep the preferences AI assist button unchecked and don't ever press the in game AI assist button.

Thanks.
Makes me wonder why there was just a dial set to allow the user to directly set the level of AI assistants.
That need to click here, and then there, and also watch when you do it, that all is just other brink on the pile why players should quickly get used to doing the air war on their own.

@56ajax
Can't you set an AD Naval Patrol?

Yes I can but I dont want to micro manage the air war. If I create one and then use AI Air Assist it get s deleted before it is executed. Is there any pre conditions that would make the AI create a Naval Patrol to isolate Odessa?

Maybe there is something wrong with Odessa. At least I can't even set Odessa to be a naval target for the AOG at Constanza, although it even lists Leningrad as possible target.
