Snake Island

With recent announcements that the Ukrainians now have HIMARS, Harpoons and will be getting 18 of some sort of U.S. patrol boat, it is a fair guess Snake Island won't be long under Russian control.

Just curious if CMANO had any Snake Island scenarios? Or if someone has knocked one up to simulate the pros and cons of fighting over it?

Well, be careful. He asked about CMNAO. I think the one being built is CMO.

A response for either game is fine, my bad I was confused and thought I was posting in CMANO forum!

The scenario was built with CMO. Like many, I have both games, but CMO is my go to version now.

I'm hoping Russia isn't considering using WMD on the island to deny Ukrainian access to it? Persistent chemicals, or worse????

Doubt it. Probably stuffed the toilet, clogged the drains, took a few dumps in trenches, and left mines about.

Ukraine has retaken the island. It seems from reporting Russia withdrew as the cost of holding it was unsustainable.

I am sorry to say but please don't interpret events according to western (Or for that matter, but this is not a significant problem, Russian) propaganda narratives.

Ukraine has not retaken the island. The donation of long range 52 cal 155 mm artillery pieces with precision munitions such as the french CEASAR has made the it impossible for the Russians to justify using and sacrificing resources on keeping this small island occupied, since the Island - which has an area under 1 km square - is now within range of Ukrainean western-donated long range precision guided 155 mm artillery systems.

Even though I heard this too from some shitty piece of westrern propaganda channel posing as news, there is nothing to suggest, as the article you are linking shows, that the Ukraineans have retaken the Island.

The article from MSN you linked says nothing about a reoccupation of the Island by Ukraine forces, and that is most probably because if they took the Island they would become vulnerable to 100 mm naval artillery that's present on every Stereguschy class corvettes/frigates (or the Admiral Gorshkov frigate I am not sure is present in the Black Sea).

The fact is that no side can now hold the Island - the Russians since it was in range of precision guided 155 mm artillery that could strike the island (but the artillery could not reach much further) and the Ukraineans cannot hold the Island since it would be in range of the relatively large amount of corvettes/frigates and OPVs with 100 mm naval guns that is present in the black sea and which could easily destroy everything important the Ukraineans put on the island.

Also, reconnaisanace by very small but good enough Orlan-10 drones to just reconnoiter the approximate positions of Ukrainean units or cpmplex components on the island together with the at least relatively large amount of Kalibr cruise missiles that can be fired from these same corvettes/frigates from a distance where the cruise missiles will have a travel time of at most a couple of minutes, which means the short flight times would not give any eventual NATO-aligned AWACS or other AEW&C aircraft present in the area enough time to warn Ukrainean forces on the island to give them a chance to move any larger, operationally important equipment (as was done during the Russian mass cruise missile strikes on the first morning of the invasion when Ukraineans forces where informed of flight paths of Russian cruise missiles and whern it was not hard for the Ukraineans to move any mobile or semi-mobile HVT system at a for instance at a military base two hundred meters with flight times of 30 minutes or more - and it was not hard for the Ukraineans to understand that a missile apporaching an airbase might be aimed at a mobile high value target, such as for instance the upgraded S-300PS/ S-300PT SAM systems the Ukraineans had quite a lot of at the start of the invasion and still do (with upgraded radars making the systems using SARH guidance quite lethal).

So no, the Ukraineans have not retaken the Island.

The russians did a ordered retreat understanding it would be impossible to justify the forces and sacrificies needed to be done to hold this small island, that the Ukraineans cannot really make any use of anyway
, and no Ukraineans (To their credit) has tried to reoccupy the island either which would be just as if not mroe costly for them.

Yeah, they have not. So what? Do they really need the island? The most important thing is that the Russians don't place nasty shit on that island anymore. Ukraine prevents this, so....
