Which allows for a more historical result overall. not which is more simulating but which appears to keep the grand strategy similar to historical events?

It is hard to tell.

When you look at the large and small fleet composition, you need to remember that both are restricted to 6 aircraft carriers either way.

With the large fleet I believe the AI (Japanese) will normally have 6 aircraft carriers in their fleet. With the small fleet, the AI (for both sides) tends to break these up into groups of 3 with supporting vessels.

Either way, if you are playing the Allies, you still need to be very careful and have superiority (air and sea) before attacking the AI at sea.

I think both are doing the job. But I prefer Small Fleet because I find it is better simulating the naval attrition battles that were on going in the Solomons historically. Lots of CA/DD were lost there.

Stupid question I know but will ask anyway. What's the difference between large and small fleet?

Large fleet games, or normal game allows 9 ships per fleet.

Small fleet games allow just 6 ships per fleet.

I think you are mixing the 2 games wpe normal is 9 small fleet is 3. wpp normal is 20 small fleet is 6

You are correct.

Don't think I even remember how to play "large" fleet anymore. Not one plays that way and I always keep 9 ships together.
