I was wondering if there is some way to get a similar experience how music was handled in DW2 as it was in DWU. I am not a fan of the track skipping that is happening when i just go and check the map for example.
I would like to hear different music when combat happens and let the previous track resume after the event has ended resume.

I waited for some days, hoping someone will tell you.
Unfortunately, noone did so:
It works very easy!
One Problem still: there are little gaps, when the game switches the music files, it hangs a little.. graphical and audible.
Therefore I select one musicfile and listen via vlc or whatever to music.
But you want it to do it as you described.
So you move just all music you do not want to in a folder you call for instance x and drop the music you do not want in there.
Now I took a audio file from a "bibi blocksberg" to sho you that after zooming out to the exploring/peaceful? region, it does not start from the beginning, but plays where it stoppd (maybe it runs in the background further?) I do not invested that tim ein it..
But it works.
Look into the video and you will understand.
Music is from DEEP ROCK GALACTIC - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK and bibi blocksberg
You can find the whoile DEEP ROCK GALACTIC - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK in the
www..
Have fun!

Well it somewhat works in the sense that one track will indeed continue from where it started if you setup one file in each folder. It falls apart when there are multiple songs, i mean bibi blocksberg is awesome... but maybe not for hours on end
The clip you created however shows very nicely that the whole system really is not designed for the use of custom music. I am assuming the idea was to create a dynamic experience like the Oddworld games (Odyssey, Exxodus) where the music changes in accordance to what is happening on screen. In those sidescroller puzzle jump&run games that works very well. In Distant Worlds 2 it is somewhat "interrupting the flow" for me when the music changes because i check my research or the galaxy map. In my mind i am not really doing anything different so the change in music scenery is odd.
I know that is probably just a me problem but i wish there would be more options to customize that aspect of the game instead of, well in my case turn the music down and listen to something else.

Just wanted to voice that it definitely is not just a you problem - I find the system jarring. I'd prefer to just listen to music straight through. OR be able to disable some/most of the event triggers for music changes.
As is, I mute the game music and play a Spotify scifi playlist...

I also listen to one Track external. The breaks are absolutely unneccesary, at least for me and because you often change your view, it is interrupted way too often.
With master of orion III, I did it myself. In the main game the harp music runs, at fights and the pre-fight scene, music from the "galactic rock game" is used. Fits really good!
With other titles it is the same (even only if a research is done, but it disturbs too) - and in this case there are some interruptions coming with it.
I found, that this music is for me the best. No matter what I do and in which UI I am.
