Virgin Game: Had never played before, went against Beriand who Beta tested. Didn't read manual or anything, wanted to come in cold.

Major mistakes

1) Didn't send any troops into Northern Virginia in first couple turns, gave him easy land. Figured I'd need an Army.
2) Yankees got Infantry Weapons +1, then +2 way before me. Didn't put 2 chits in early enough.
3) Beriand went "All-In" on Virginia based on my Virgin mistakes
4) Rebels put way to may troops in New Mexico, Arkansas and Tennessee. Yankees abandoned those fronts.
5) Enough said.

Interesting.

I notice in our game both of us are also fairly heavy on troops in Arkansas and Tennessee. Maybe we both messed up there but it would be disappointing if the secret of the game was ultimately to throw almost everything into Virginia into a big WW1 style meatgrinder.

Hey man, don't be spying on my bad play!

In our game, I put far less troops in New Mexico & most certainly Arkansas again Beriand.
The donation of Northern Virginia in the first couple turns, completely stupid.
Plus, I got out Tech'ed in Infantry Weapons. He got +1 few turns before me. Now +2, several turns before me.

Since Wimbledon is on, that's called: Game, Set, Match

Also, note, I came into this match, blind. Prefer that before reading.

Well, definitely nope :geek: Union had marines up to limit, enlarged navy of all kinds, and was keeping up on the other theaters :P Doubt anything was abandoned, Confederacy would not push north.
2) infantry equipment would hurt for ~5 turns of dominance, yeah...
Not sure about land in Virginia, got maybe one line of hexes over normal at most. Union just has units first. If anything, it was not case of first couple of turns, but 10+ turns with first divisions influx...

Yeah, and on poor Confs :) Life is hard then, but some things can be done, at least I hope so... and there are promises of at least some patch changes.

@Beriand: Putting up new game. Password = rematch.
I gotta run some errands, so will play when I get chance.
I got a little crazy in West Virginia too. First game, need to do some hiking :)

Going into your first MP game blind against a beta veteran is one thing.

Still being blind as to the correct strategies going into your 6th or 7th MP game as I am is a whole new level of incompetence :D

You obviously learned from most of your mistakes John with me. Although I am figuring you're a bit weak in a few places... I think I had a lot of surprise contacts in my first few games cause it's not so common in other Strategic Command Titles. Plus if you're playing the CSA they're just a bit weaker for the most part and I think survival is their grand strategy that or lucky ambushes. Not really possible if a Union Player scouts with Cav/Balloons, Divisions and Riverclads/Gunboats. Also the North usually always has that extra couple of units to respond to a surprise invasion while the South is always short those 3 units to defend from one.

I'd say the South has to make "zero mistakes," to have a decent game. The Union can muck it up a lot more... She can blast off 1000-2000 MPPs on dumb errors. The South will lose 3 Ports for that same error and probably the game sooner.

Hopefully some patches will fix the balance.
Retired from existing games.

South needs the Army of North Virginia. (Needs to be Army counter, stack everyone up and kickass)
Tech needs to go away, ruins the game.
Union supply is ridiculous in enemy territory.
All the blah-blah BS about European intervention, Indians, New Mexico stuff, etc. are like phone ads you don't want to do.

Gonna chill, play some Advanced Squad Leader with my buddy.

I don't blame you... The Union has a land army and Leadership advantage over the South when historically it was in reverse roles. With Grant/Garibaldi you have a level 8/9 General practically in the beginning of the Campaign Season of 1862. I now have figured that Land Techs are way tooooo easy for the Union to have. The South has issues affording those Corps I think in time to save her butt...and protect all of those pieces of Real Estate!

CSA Needs 5 Corps in Summer of '62, Lee and Jackson with Rating 9... FULL tech'd Divisions and enough of them around to throw away. Then he has to be an expert player to know how to use them just 'right'... Cause if the Union digs in, it will still be tough and then the CSA will need some Artillery and luck.

High quality CSA Divisions and good leadership can trash Union corps. Just gotta keep the Union out of too many FS locations, contest the blockades if possible to keep the money up if you stockpiled your cotton. The right tech for your infantry, and proper HQ rigor is a big help. Sure its going to be hard...real hard in fact, but if the Union makes too many mistakes...they ain't getting nowhere.

I've seen the CSA hammer the Union in MP. Probably there needs some fine tuning for MP sure. Unfortunately that can affect SP games. With those vs AI in beta, I playing the CSA could defeat the Union by late 1862 or early 1863. Repeatedly. Since I'm a MP player, I'm not really concerned about SP. That said, too many changes will affect SP play, which I believe the bulk of folks play casually.

What would be nice if there was a separate Blue and Grey scenario tweaked and balance exclusively for MP. Its been mentioned before. Still, as things are now, and has been tested, CSA can wreck the Union.

Not sure when there's a "patch" or new mod-scenario to play.
I apologize to devoncop, yellowcatcus, beriand for early surrender.
Game is still in early stages far as getting MP-balance.
I remember it took a good 6 to 12 months to make SC-WAW better.

Will consider a "Mirrored-game".
That way I cannot cry about General Lee...

I consider myself a intermediate player at best (I guess?). Have glossed over rules book. Apologize to any first games I quit, but when I saw level 2 Infantry and I was behind 50%, I'm sure you were using Spying and Intelligence.

I'm willing to play "Mirrored" game to get a look on MP balance.

games up

Spying should not change that much... Could be unholy RNG with many breakthroughs, but in this case CSA just left 1 chit in Infantry Weapons to lvl 2, after lvl 1 was achieved. Big no-no in this current funny two-chits world :P

True that. I must put that 2nd chit, AFTER Level #1 has been achieved. You had Level #2 and rear troops rotating quite well. Rebs need another 50%+ to get Level #2. The pounding was not fun.
