1.0.5.3 Wrong Way!

I have this come up regularly. A ship keeps going to the wrong place trying to get to its destination - like it's offset by some 2D translation from where the game thinks it is?
Here's a prime example. This ship should have upgraded with its fleet ages ago. I noticed the fleet was STILL sitting there on upgrade, and when I investigated this ship was a few klicks "west" of the target planet doing the upgrades.
So I individually selected it and told it to go there for fuel.
It jumped close, but then began heading away again!!!
This is not uncommon behavior. I see this all throughout games - have to typically save, exit the game, and then come back and and see if the errant ship can find itself again... Usually, on reload, it can - but not 100%.
Maybe a memory corruption issue? Or maybe just some sort of internal data update bug (e.g. after a jump the random inaccuracy offset is incorrectly applied as a translation on its origin -- or similarly, when adjusting for collision on arrival, an adjustment is made in a 1/2-arse way leaving the ship "offset" from itself?)? :/
