1.0.5.3 Wrong Way!

I have this come up regularly. A ship keeps going to the wrong place trying to get to its destination - like it's offset by some 2D translation from where the game thinks it is?

Here's a prime example.

This ship should have upgraded with its fleet ages ago. I noticed the fleet was STILL sitting there on upgrade, and when I investigated this ship was a few klicks "west" of the target planet doing the upgrades.

So I individually selected it and told it to go there for fuel.

It jumped close, but then began heading away again!!!

This is not uncommon behavior. I see this all throughout games - have to typically save, exit the game, and then come back and and see if the errant ship can find itself again... Usually, on reload, it can - but not 100%.

Maybe a memory corruption issue? Or maybe just some sort of internal data update bug (e.g. after a jump the random inaccuracy offset is incorrectly applied as a translation on its origin -- or similarly, when adjusting for collision on arrival, an adjustment is made in a 1/2-arse way leaving the ship "offset" from itself?)? :/

Interesting, we'll investigate.

We have already mentioned the problem here some time ago (1.0.3.7)
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 4#p4990744

Unfortunately, I was unable to find/create a savefile with this issue.
So it might be something which is not actually saved to disk.

I had same issue with 1 ship within the fleet. I ordered fleet to go near the planet, then group and ordered attack, but 1 ship goes totally opposite way. Then i tried ordering that 1 ship to go near place where attack is going, but he refuses and still remains on the other way. Very strange behavior. It's not common issue as it happened to me only once.
