Mac M1, Crossover, Parallels and WITP

Hello, I'm Leo, a newbie to the game.
Due to the nature of my profession (sailor), I have half of my year spent away from home with my lovely MacBook Pro M1 13", leaving my desktop PC at home. In my free time, aside from watching the ceiling in my cabin or maybe going to the gym, there isn't much more to do. So occasionally firing WITP sounds like a great idea to me.
I looked into it, it seems the fact it's an M1 chip messes plenty of things up, I'm not a tech guy ("I love it but it doesn't love me back" kind of relationship) so I bought Crossover, installed WITP in it.
When starting the game it tells me that it can't set screen mode.
I believe my screen resolution is 2560 x 1600
Now, I have seabees, but the sad thing is when I create a game shortcut it default creates it in the desktop of Crossover, which when I access just opens my Mac's desktop, within which there's no shortcut.
I'd like to start this thread to see first if anyone actually took a similar decision, or if anyone has 2 cents to give about this weird situation. I am tempted to also post something in Crossover's forum to ask if there's any way to access an actual windows desktop, and not my Mac's.
I'm new to all this of course so any advice/information is readily accepted.
Best regards,
Vixel

Welcome to the game.
I’m not a Mac user but I know there are some guides on the internet for M1 gaming.
Here is one.
https://medium.com/subjective-studio/ga ... be6a414736
Note the final conclusion:
“I can't very well recommend attempting to run Windows games, but if you have to, I would
recommend Parallels over Crossover. While both were sub-par gaming experiences, more games
seemed to perform better on the full Windows 11 ARM virtual machine if you need that one particular game.”
For me….I don’t like sub-par gaming and Parallels cost money. It is a subscription service.
My advice is for you is to buy another windows based laptop with Windows 10 or 11 installed.
You can get a travel case that would carry both your laptops.
Being a former sailor myself I would want to have a spare laptop available anyway when I travel.
When you have an important and expensive game like WITP-AE which is already a bear
to install and setup I would not want a sub-par gaming experience at the end of that if
I could afford it.
Plus the fact that you are going to want mods, graphics, map mods, scenarios and programs
like Tracker and Combat Reporter for WITP-AE which may run better on a true windows machine.
The downside to this is price. You could always get a refurbished used laptop cheep.
But….For me I would want a 17” HD screen for this game and a webcam for face time with my sweetheart.

Just my two cents.

Hey, thank you for the reply, those 2 cents might get me onto something.
I appreciate the honesty, I have a second laptop, some old Lenovo yoga that I tried and could run the game. I thus know I can play the game if I bring it over.
As for the gaming on Mac itself, damn right it seems that it isn't meant for this (and indeed not the reason I bought the computer in the first place, It was purely for the workspace and my maritime studies, still ongoing).
I went straight for crossover but maybe Parallels is a far better option even more for this kind of game that you want to tweak to your taste. There is always the option to try for probably 14 days or something, I think I saw something like this.
Furthermore, it's a turn based game so I am really intrigued to see how that runs, there's plenty calculations behind during the turn ending phase, as far as my small knowledge is concerned, but I'm not intending to run an RTS with thousands of units moving around at the same time at speed 3. Once again, if a trial period exists, I'm willing to test.
The fact it's a subscription sucks, but I personally am not a fan of having two laptops, considering my Mac does everything I -really- need onboard (which is still a working period, even if I "have" 14 legal rest hours) except playing Matrix games' marvellous things, while I could play other games that run on Steam with Mac. But, the possibility of bringing both exists and should be considered.
Your 2 cents opened my view a little bit more, and that's exactly why I'm open to more cents from more generous donors.
This thread might not be very relevant, but if no one finds anything wrong with it I don't mind hearing more from you guys and giving some feedback.
Best regards,
Vixel
EDIT:
I set up parallels, while crossover doesn't work for me Parallels does great, and it's not a subscription but a one time purchase, if you're a student you also get a reduction but that's if you're American which I'm not, shame.
The performance is -really- good, the installation is simple and the setup went smoothly, just had to figure out my screen size with seabee. (Performance on par with windows machine for me).
I think that settles it for me, there isn't much to learn except that if someone wants to use a Mac Parallels is clearly the solution, but it's an upfront payment. Thanks for the support!

Have yo been able to run full screen or windowed as large as your display)? What is you command line look like (with that I mean the parameters that SeeBea creates)?

Parallels works great for me, got a new iMac (M1) a few months back. I could never get Wine/Crossover to work, but going the formal VM route worked perfectly!

I got WITP Admirals edition and am trying to run it on my 2016 MacBook Pro 16in with the M1Pro chip. I am using Parallels 18 with windows 11 as Bootcamp can't be used. The program seems to start but it only shows about a 1/6 of the screen. Can I do anything to set the resolution for the program before launching it. Matrix tech support won't get involved as they say program design to un natively on Windows.

Vixel. See my post (link above) from some time back... still running without issue through @ four OS updates on my Mac and many updates to Parallels.
Strongly recommend Parallels. Happy Gaming. Kevin

Hey very late answer, but if not for you it might help other people.
I remember having had a really hard time figuring the -real- resolution of my Mac screen which ended up showing like this in my seabees:
-pxf 1450
- pyf 890
I dont have any jitters with the ship's animations either but I don't think Seabees was the fix for it,rather another application for windows that moves pixel by pixel a windowed application. I don't remember what I used but it is possible 100%.
Hope it helps anyone.
