2v2 possible?

Hey fellas,
I was looking into having a 2vs2 PBEM, and I wanted to see if it was possible. Starting with the allied side, have one of the allied players go first and make their moves. Once the first allied player is done, he/she will save their file then send their saved file to the 2nd allied player which they will continue their moves etc off the saved allied game file. Once that allied player is complete, he/she will now send the file through the game for the axis player to access for their turn.
The key to doing this is the ability to save the game file and being able to send that saved game file to your wargame partner to complete their side of the map.

It is absolutely possible. 3 other forumites and I played a 2x2 PBEM game for about 6 months of game time. Only one Japanese player will see the combat resolution, but everyone else can view the replay.
The biggest drawback is that you are now managing 4 people's schedules instead of 2 and we found that the pace of keeping the turn moving really dragged at times. That, combined with a rather large Japanese invasion force in North Oz that was cut off and scheduled for destruction resulted in the end of our game.
If all 4 players have plenty of free time and can really keep the turn moving, you can have a lot of fun making plans with your partner!

Yes, I can see scheduling somewhat being a drag from time to time. Jumping on Zoom with your wargame partner can help with planning because you can share your screen and talk through war plans with the game open.
All in all, I'm glad it can be done. Thanks for the feedback.

When I was teaching in Vermont, and given that Matrix Games was from there, I thought it would be interesting to have a multiplayer game that was on campus (students could learn a bit of history AND military command structure, etc.). I was going to have students assigned various commands or nationalities depending upon their sides. I would have broken up the various US forces as well. It never happened but there was a lot of thought that went into it for a while. There were to be rules about communications and I was to play the umpire. So yes, it can be done, and given that we would have been all in the same room, time would not have been too much of a deterrent. This was back when this computer version of the game first came out (Eric Rutlins was visiting the University at the time). But, alas, it never happened as too much commitment was involved with too many people. But as they say, it's the thought that counts....

Vettim89 and I played as the Allies in a 2x2 game. Our biggest problem was we kept losing Japanese players. But we got to May 1942 before the game ended. You can find the AAR we did here
Warning, the AAR is titled "Pinups in the Pacific" for a reason

Ideally you want the other 3 players to be within a time zone or two. I did a 3x2 and it took almost 5 days to get the turn back because of the time zones. We stretched from Italy to Alaska....GP

It helped that Tim was 2 hours ahead of me. He did his part first and then sent it to me. We usually did our turn in one day.
