Hi all
i have a new monitor and the first time i tried to run the game through steam once i press play all i get is a black screen. the game is running on the taskbar but that's all i does. if i try to open any other window it just flicks back to the black game screen and i have to restart my PC to clear it

i had it playing fine on my old monitor so is it to do with the resolution as this new gigabyte likes to set itself to 3840x2160 its preffered resolution and its a 4k monitor too which i dont think makes a difference?

i have tried setting the resolution to way down as in 1980x1060 but itd still the same

The game is possibly trying to change the resolution and failing. Please contact me via PM and I'll arrange to send a different prefs file. That might solve the problem. In the meantime, you can also try setting the game to use the OpenGL pipeline. To that you use this procedure:

Navigate to the game's installation and find the file named "Opengl.vmoptions" in the support_files folder. Copy that file and paste it one directory up right next to Napoleon.exe and then rename Opengl.vmoptions to Napoleon.vmoptions. Then start the game up and see if everything is OK. You might need to make file extensions visible.

The game itself is coded to a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600. But you did manually set your monitor and tried a smaller size, so the limit on the resolution itself is not inherently the problem.

Sorry about that! I have sent you a PM. It used to be the other way around. Players could message me, but I could not send messages to the players except in reply to a PM from them. I guess that things changed when Matrix updated their site.

In the meantime, here is another suggestion: try running the game with admin privileges. That may make a difference.

Just ran into the black screen issue myself with a Steam version of the game. This fix worked and now I can play the game. Thanks for posting!
