HQ with torpedo ordnance

Some HQ units come equipped with "torpedo ordnance", which allows them to make torpedoes. Many HQs do not. Using the editor I can find no way to turn this on for a unit. USN Fleet Air West, for example, can make torpedoes, but I see nothing in the editor which seems to turn this on. Any suggestions as to how to modify an HQ unit to allow this?

Look up the hq with the device for torpedoes in the Locations tab. Find the device number and add it to the hq you want to have torpedoes in. That's the easiest way....GP

I tried that but torpedo ordnance doesn't show up in the toe or anyplace else I can find. The toe is Naval HQ but that doesn't show torpedo ordnance either. Still puzzled

Upon further exploration I found that the game is somewhat hard-coded. For the US air unit HQs (Army, Navy, Marines) have HQ type 55 which then enables torpedo ordnance. The edit box for HQ type is not a drop down so I discovered this by trial and error. For the British the same thing is true. The US HQs have an HQ type of 55 and the British type is 53. If someone wanted to modify a scenario cloning a capable air HQ and then modifying it seems to work. I haven't tried other nationalities and Trugrit warns against modifying for the Japanese (in another thread).

Only Air HQs can be equipped with "torpedo ordnance" - Naval HQs can't.

Regarding the "types" :

There are 6 types of HQs in AE, each with a different numeric value, as follows:

Command - 100
Army - 70
Air - 50
Amphibious - 30
Naval - 20
Corps - 0

HQs have an effective command range of between 1 - 9 hexes.

To create a HQ, in the tab marked "HQ Type", enter the desired numeric value plus the desired effective range.

A Command HQ with a range of 9 hexes would be entered as "109"; a Corps HQ with a range of 1 would be entered as "1".

Or the other way round, a HQ of the type 55 is an Air HQ with a command range of 5 and a type 53 is an Air HQ with a command range of 3.
