My best spy ... suddenly I no longer had him!

Many years later ...

... at a distant Pirate base remains

... I recover him from an escape pod!

Curiously operating from my Frigate.

His history shows a failure, I missed the message maybe? And is assigned to an escape pod. He probably escaped from the Empire that caught him and ended up at the Pirate base, possibly via a Pirate ship - LOL!

That's really cool - the events system should do a better job highlighting this kind of situation.

You may check your data\MessageLog.xml My last game messages go back 20 years. So maybe you still can figure out what happened to good old Loras Walkin on 2792.08.27. While their odyssey won't be documented in full chances are good that you can find out what exactly happened on that day.

I opened that file and am not able to find an entry for that date. I still have message from 2754 to recent.
*somewhat sarcastically* Does this mean I did not miss the message?

I don't know. I'm just assuming that all those messages make their way into the MessageLog.xml. At least that's my understanding of a Message Log, but who knows ;)
The format should be

Code: Select all

<StarDateDescription>2792.08.27</StarDateDescription>
according to your images.

Side note: lately prisoners are kept in the brig of war ships or stations indefinitely and won't get transferred for trial - until you bribe them successfully at which point they are teleported to your capital in an instance. So no decades length transports like some ambassadors have to endure ;)

Ya I did a find search that failed and also scrolled to the region in the file were the date would appear and it was not there. (I have had some curious problems with the find search in the past).

its pretty cool to see that the spy escaped in an escape pod somehow years after failing a mission and then got picked up by someone else. (might also be total coincidence that it happend that way.)

----------------------------------

i still think it would be cool if charaters would require passenger ships or freighters (incase there are no passenger ships yet) to move around.

like a spy might take your passenger ship/freighter to dock at an enemy mining station and then request a enemy passenger ship to pick him up (undercover) and move him to the target location or such.

ofcourse there would be "problems" if you actually at war with the target empire... your ships would get attacked when they try to dock at their stations/colonies...
maybe once pirates get updated and we have more "independent freighters" (i.e. pirate freighters) moving around it could be easier to get from one station to the next... but... yea for obvious reasons they dont use ships to move right now.

... which would make the whole spy game much more interesting and "realistic" as far you can call DW2 "realistic" ;)
Hiring an independent freighter and giving them specific orders to get your spy to work. Not only on capitals and home bases but anywhere with different chances to succeed, get caught, what and how much they can obtain at various bases.
Finding the basics should be easy while stealing the last pieces of a technology should be very hard. That way you have to contribute your scientists as well and can't rely solely on a spy game.
Spy speed should be linked to tech speed, too. Otherwise what's the point of slow research at all...

It just occurred to me that this spy was probably caught by the Pirate faction who's base I destroyed and subsequently recovered my spy.
