Fort Pulaski Supply 3

I noticed it is supply 3 and thus you cannot upgrade? I'm assuming the only way you can upgrade it is to get an HQ unit down there?

It might be simpler to just disband it and then send a fully upgraded unit in amphibiously to take its place. Frankly, I figure the odds of the Confederacy trying to retake the island are so low I don't even worry about upgrading the unit. The Confederates have so many other issues on their overloaded plate that a Rebel amphibious operation to re-take Pulaski seems pretty remote.

You won't be able to send an HQ there - nowhere to land it that has a direct connection to the island.

Honestly I can't see a good reason for why you would want to upgrade it - it can't be attacked by land (well, maybe except for artillery, but that won't kill a unit on its own), and if you've lost control of the sea to such a great extent that a CS gunboat swarm (and potentially an amphib) is a real possibility, frankly you've got much bigger problems than an un-upgraded brigade.

As Platoonist suggests, disbanding it and replacing it with an amphibed-in marine would be a possibility (I say marine because they can amphib themselves off the island should you wish to do so), but I don't see how that's really worth the effort. The brigade is plenty fine for anything it is going to have to do there.

I thought Tanaka was referring to Fort Pulaski itself. CSA can't upgrade the fort because it's supply is only 3. Or maybe I'm confused, heh.

Tanaka has a good point. Why is Fort Pulaski supply only 3? It's adjacent to Savannah, a level 10 port.

Probably an HQ in Savannah wouldn't help because the HQ supply range doesn't extend to the island.

It's at a three because it's an isolated settlement on an island. The supply numbers from the mainland don't carry over.

Yes just talking about the fort. I was wondering if attaching an HQ nearby (if possible since an island) would raise the supply level to allow a fort upgrade.

In reality, it is an island in the middle of a river not some isolated offshore island as the map makes it seem. It makes no sense that it isn't able to be upgraded, see the link:

I have no doubt that is the case. Most of the so called islands of the SE U.S. are only separated from the mainland by marshy rivers, backwaters and estuaries. But how it is currently configured on the map makes it seem far more removed.

Given supply doesn't cross water, why couldn't it be a secondary supply so it can be upgraded? The fort itself fell very easily but the core issue was that the Union brought Parrot guns that outraged the older cannon in the fort - something an upgrade would simulate the confederates changing.

I'm kind of wondering if maybe the current setup of Pulaski is a game design decision to keep the place from being fought over again and again and changing hands constantly. But, I can't know for sure.

Ft Pulaski & Ft Jackson should have the ability to be upgraded. Upgrading Research should also be stronger. Why are all the forts in sleep mode?

That's likely so you can skip over them when cycling through units which have or haven't moved in a turn. Forts can't move so....skip 'em.

So I gave it a try in hotseat mode. No dice. Longstreet's HQ can boost supply levels on land, but those impressive numbers can't cross open waters to Tybee Island nor can he attach Fort Pulaski to his command.

Fort Pulaski probably no. However, you could upgrade an isolated fort like Jackson on the Mississippi Delta, provided you could spare an HQ from the northern front long enough to get it down Old Man River and boost the local supply numbers. However, it seems like a lot of work to save an exposed fort that will likely be overwhelmed anyway.

Ft. Pulaski is quite irritating, thanks for reminding me of how easy(with event) Charleston is shut down... It should require a little more than a few hundred MPPs from the Union to chop off 1000s in trade.
