Fuel Transport?

First, does it matter what type of transport one uses to supply a base that has no fuel ? The reason I ask is I have a base that is zero fuel nothing I seem to do will change this, have sent numerous transports to the base but to no avail still fuel registers as zero. Are the fuel transports depositing the fuel on ships? (fueling themselves for a trip back I have no clue)

Very frustrating any suggestion would be appreciated I have no ships in the port and still the fuel reads zero so I dont think anything is using the fuel im dropping it just doest show an increase.

Are you making sure you have put the fuel transport in a "transport" TF rather than a "replenishment" TF?

It is more difficult to get a replenishment TF to unload - but it can be done - make sure the TFs home port is the size 0 base (now it wont try and head home) then tell it to unload.

Thanks for the reply, yeah made sure it was a transport rather than a replenishment i shall unload a replenishment tf in there have a couple with much fuel to unload. As I write this reply i have seen a little jump in fuel seems so small after all that i have pumped into it went from 0 to 575 but the total fuel on the transports had to be at least 15k or more.

Unloading fuel in a size 0 port is a very slow business, slower than supplies. If you have ships anchored here and needing fuel, they may consume it faster than you unload it.

I like better unload my TK/AO in port of size >3 (so protected of subs) and from there my barges carry fuel to the dots I want to use. They are small enough to unload in one turn.

I'm not entirely certain about this but from what I've seen it seems that when you download fuel, all ships in the port, including the one making the delivery, immediately top up their tanks before they depart. In doing so they often suck up all the fuel they delivered. I once captured a major base and downloaded two 40,000 TFs of fuel while most of my invasion fleet and support ships were in port. End result: 1328 fuel points delivered to the base and a huge belch from the combined fleet.

From what I have been able to figure out (reading through old threads) there seems to be no way to stop a ship from refueling when it reaches any port with fuel. This makes it very difficult to fuel empty bases with either single subs or transports. It is even harder if you send other ships with either supplies or troops because they will want to refuel (always offload these before dropping fuel).

One transport ship just doesn't carry enough fuel (your larger AK/AP carries only 1500 points of fuel - half its supply capacity). You have a much better chance with TK and AO vessels because the cargo capacity is much higher (3-8000 points) especially in relation to their operating fuel capacity. I guard these ships with what borders on obsession because I once had 4 Japanese oilers (that's 64,000 points of fuel) sunk in port by a raiding surface fleet. It made operating later on in the game very difficult.
