Mod Newbie

Hey guys,

I would like to learn how to mod the game. Not that I can do any better than you guys but just to learn how. I understand I need CSLint but when I went to install it in Debian WSL it does not understand the last command rsync.
Do I need Ubuntu WSL instead? Also can I do anything using Linux ? I have Linux,Windows 10,and Mac Mini m1 boxes.

What kind of modding do you want to do?

You don't need CSLint, but it is a helpful tool. You would definitely want it if you wanted to do scripting. But it all depends on the type of modding you'd like to do?

You don't need CSLint to get started with that.

The biggest thing that takes the most time is building data.

How's your hand at making maps?

What's your knowledge about orders of battles? (historical, spanning decades)

What are you passionate about from a military history point of view?

Since the game don’t have a Random Map Generator unfortunately that you can use to make a quick terrain ready map that you can then edit, is there any other way other than loading existing maps to edit, since making maps from scratch in the editor can be more time consuming? Thanks

When you open the map editor, there are all the existing maps.

But, more importantly, there is a folder called "Master Maps". These provide you with a bunch of large historical maps that you can resize to whatever you want.

Once you make your map, you can edit it fairly quickly to whatever you wish.

Okay, then just say I created a new map, and I want to play solo against the AI in the shortest time possible. I looked up the manual, specifically the scenario editor section and I want to know if after having created the map file, and Order of Battle file, can the A.I., be set up in the scenario editor to automatically attack the human opponent without any script/code involved? If the answer is yes, do you have any step by step instructions of how to do this?

You can let the Legacy AI still play the game. The Legacy AI is heavily focused on capturing objectives, so put a few key objectives in the area you want the AI to attack and voila, you're done.

You don't need to script at all if you don't want. You only want to script if you want to have Event Actions or have the AI work in certain ways.

Of course, the Legacy AI is not the brightest when it comes to pathfinding (lots of canals, etc), so keep that in mind when you're making a scenario and map and placing units.

Also keep in mind that the Legacy AI does NOT know how to operate helicopters/on map aircraft. So you'd want to ensure the AI side does not have any of those items.
