having great fun with game. worked strategy(playing difficult level but cut back in union experience) to finally get the french in.
1. got to Potomac and played relentless defense. never tried to advance
2. able to hold nashville and memphis and little rock. again all defense. no kentucky invasion
3. put extra effort into new mexico
4. all the above could well have been done historically, but ahistorical i built a large fleet of ironclads and monitors and held most of the ports from blockade
5. when the french came in i declared war on mexico and invaded north mexico. did not do well with french in advance to mexico city - did use some french units to defend ports and new orleans.
finally did lose nashville and other parts.
but got victory in march '65.

anyway great fun. the update version i thought did a good job on AI. did a reasonable attack on new Orleans and other places. now will try the brits!

I followed the same strategy with the English instead of the French and won as well.

I had the Brits invade the Union at several places from Canada, notably Detroit, and also to make a landing in Washington state and Oregon. I used their Navy to back the Union Navy off of the CSA. It worked!
