Yugoslavia again

But not for the partisans topic. This is earlier than this. Don’t you think there should be some short of penalty for invading it in 1940?

Today in PBEM, this is France in July, August 1940 and Yugoslavia just after. But, historically, this is because of the coup that an invasion was planned and executed.

Alvaro has introduced Italian war declaration if UK invades Iraq too early.

Why not do the same for Yugoslavia? The question is what is the penalty?

Since a lot of people is now skipping Greece. I wonder if a war declaration on Yugoslavia must not trigger Greece in the Allies side. This should oblige Axis to wait to crush both countries.

Of course, there is a problem with this. In the game, in April, the weather is awful in this area. Weather must be revised to achieve the historical timetable.

What do you think of this?

The reason to not invade them is before the coup they are on you side if you play with diplomacy on there is a built in reason which is that the odds are you will align them and not have to attack at all, I think playing with diplomacy on makes the Balkans and Spain way more historical and fun. If you invade UK Spain doesn't join you only shifts your direction with diplomacy off who cares with it on it is great. the diplomacy part of the game is great but nobody wants to use it so oh well

Diplomacy is very hard to balance. Having Spain or Turkey on your side is a huge advantage.

Historically Spain wanted nothing to do with the war. They were already depleted from their civil war. With the Allies paying off Spain what benefit would there be for joining the Germans unless the payer was conquered. Only if Germany pretty much conquered Western Europe would they be forced to join or be invaded. Each nations does what it does because it thinks it is in their own self interest even if logically it makes no sense.

Turkey favored the Allies but didn't want to get invaded by Germany. They kept both sides at bay.

I am not in favor in diplomacy in WW2 games. It throws off the computer opponent. It throws off the game balance.

As for Yugo there is no real set of rules for dealing with early DOW. Sure I could make a US entry delay but that is nothing of importance. Too many World in Flames games told me the difference between playing the entry game or just going for it made no difference in the game.

As the Axis you do better and the USA comes in earlier but you are stronger against them
OR
Be less aggressive they come in later but you are weaker.

zero sum gain. Yugoslavia early doesn't impact the game much.
