Auto transportation on roads, rail ,etc

So do the game sends supply fuel etc around by itself, I assume it must, since I cant transport fuel, for example, to a land base.
So how does this work? Couldnt find anything on this. I mean if I transport fuel and supplies to Soerabaja, will it then send it to all the other bases on Java? Or will Resources from one end of Australia be sent to the other end?
This is also relevant when it comes to Japan, do I have to tranport all the oil and resources to Japan or can I transport it to Singapore, or other places and the game will send it up through China and then I cand move it from Shanghai, example to Japan?
If there is a text about it, just point in the right direction

Others may give more details, but by and large the auto transportation system is demand-driven. Ground units and air units present at a base will increase supply demand at that base, ships home-ported at a base will increase fuel demand, industries at a base will demand resources and fuel, refineries at the base will demand oil. Surplus supplies and fuel tend to migrate overland to the bigger bases in an area. The game tries to transport supplies and fuel via roads and rails from a base with surplus supplies and fuel to the base which demands more supplies / fuel than present. In fact the system tries to send more than requested, IIRC two or three times of what is required. Depending on the stockpiles, distance, terrain and transportation network, the system will send supplies and fuel each day (close distance and good connection), several times per week or only once per week (distant base and bad road/rail connection) to the demanding base.
Oil and resources also tend to migrate overland to places where demand exists, usually the biggest bases in an area because they often contain industries. From there they have to be shipped to Japan, where it is auto-distributed again overland.
Loading resources and oil at a port also counts as demand and eventually will attract deliveries of surplus resources and oil overland to that port. Some people have managed to create an overland route from Singapore to Shanghai (or Port Arthur or Fusan) and then started shipping resources and oil from Shanghai, creating a demand that eventually siphoned resources and oil all the way from Singapore. Search the forum for the "magic highway". But it is not easy to achieve, takes time and is pretty unrealistic.

Gratch, this is a complicated topic but essential to understand in order to play Japan. Fuel and oil do not "flow" around the board. They must be carried. Supplies and resources can "flow" OVERLAND under the right conditions as LST describes. A key point to understand first is Japan. The three main islands of Japan, Kyushu, Shikoku and Honshu are connected so supplies and resources will flow around where needed (due to demand) HOWEVER Hokkaido is not connected and such items located there must be transported to the main "islands" (nearest port will do). As for "flow" of resources and supplies, this is only done over contiguous land and takes into account losses due to the type of land crossed per hex (which can eat away at supplies over long distances). The most effective movement is over rails then road hexes. If none exist, then your transportation costs go up DRAMATICALLY. So quite often the best way to carry fuel, oil AND supplies is by ship, where you have no transportation loss unless attacked. Also Japan being made up of islands, NOTHING can flow onto the Islands so all must be carried. Once there then the items can flow again. Making sure your key industrial cities have the right mix of materials is vital to keep industry moving. Of particular note is OIL. For Japan it is the most critical of items. Your operations report should tell you when you have a problem, such as a key heavy industry is not producing due to a lack of oil. Using tracker helps you keep on top of it, but it CAN be done from the industrial screen, just a bit more cumbersome. I hope this helps.

Somebody once actually did a thread on logistics.
He explained how the supply traveled around and other people posted as well. It has 66 posts in total.

Thanks!
I was just searching for bulk cargo transfer between adjacent ports. Found the right section of manual from Alfred's post.
9.3.3.3 AUTOMATIC TRANSFER OF BULK CARGO BETWEEN ADJACENT PORTS
Bulk cargo (supplies, fuel, resources and oil) can be automatically transferred between friendly
ports that are in adjacent hexes and separated by a hexside that is navigable by ships, including
navigable river hexsides.
Thus, in mainland Japan some islands can transfer cargo between them as needed if they have adjacent port to another one.

Wait Fuel does not move by Rail???
How come then when I am offloading fuel from US into Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane both get fuel?

It does move.
E.g. I ship continuously fuel to Perth and it definitely moves to places with demand.
Also, only problem in Japan is Hokkaido, only part without adjacent port connection.

reading right now. Just the way someone said that fuel doesn't but I was confused because it has been happening in my game.

Fuel moves in the game. It is not stated clearly anywhere how it moves…..rail, road, mules or magic.
But it does move based on demand.
“The overland movement of raw materials (resources, fuel and oil) is essentially the same as that for supplies.”
Fuel movement is more complex…..permanent demand, temporary demand...etc.

There are much better and more detail guides but the basics are-
It all moves and it's all mainly demand driven but there must also be code that moves it from inland to ports (the closest, largest the better) and/or closer to Japan. There must also be code that moves it from one base to another if the base storage becomes full to avoid spoilage. Larger ports store more and attract more.
I've heard that if you can clear a path from Singas to Fusan it will flow that far eventually!
You also have to remember that bases will not send anything anywhere if in doing so it drops below it's own requirements. For supply (fuel?) how much flows is based on the percentage trace value determined by the terrain it moves through. This in turn will limit how far supply can move in one turn. To see it select a base and hit 5. Supply is also lost during movement, look at it as the tranport cost.
I suspect movement cost for fuel (likely), oil, resources work in a similar way.

To add to that, you cannot use the 5 key to get the supply flow data if you are in a PBEM game - you need to be in a game against the computer or head-to-head.
The numbers you see from viewing this are the potential for supply to reach that hex. Demand draw will determine which hexes the supply actually moves along.
