Allied pilot training rates in Scenario 2??

Does anyone know if something was messed with in Scenario 2 that makes the Allied pilots train painfully slow?
I am 5 days into a PBEM and across the board, everywhere I have pilots training, it seems to be going extremely slow. I am also doing a Scenario 1 PBEM, and though it's been months since I was in early December 1941, I don't recall pilots taking this long to start gaining points.
Take a look at this screenshot of a Mohawk unit at Anchorage. The game date is now 13 December 1941, and they've been set to 100% training, sweep at 5000ft since day 1 of the campaign, and this is all they've done so far. These should all be green by now. Am I just having a bad recollection of the first week of pilot training in the campaign or is something off? It really feels off.

To be honest, it looks about right. First off, pilots listed in green gained the last turn. The ones in Orange have gained this calendar month.
Then, all the pilots start with 0 accrued points in all skills and experience and so it takes time for the first increases to happen. Often it takes
4-5 turns before you start seeing increases. It could be said that this unit is a bit slow, but what is the Leadership rating of the commander? I do
think that makes a difference, but early in the game you really do not have the PPs needed to change out this leader.
One last note, as far as I know there is no way to change the skill/experience gains in the scenario file.

It's Alaska ... in December ... how's the weather for flying then! Yes they can gain some skill points without flying, but not nearly as much.

Some things:
- Leadership rating of unit commander
- other CO skills (related to what is being trained, maybe)
- experience and skills of top pilots (you might want to add couple of experienced pilots sometimes, since those below unit average train faster usually)

Question too OP. Does that unit have 3-4 operational planes?
Kind regards,

I think Nomad probably hit the nail on the head but for the sake of conversation I want to keep this going.
The unit has 22 of 22 operational aircraft and has since day 1, so aircraft availability is not a problem.
The weather in Alaska is sometimes bad but what about the rest of the world? I picked this squadron but I am experiencing the same issues with ALL squadrons currently training world wide. It must just be how it goes for the first week of the war, it takes a minute to get training points accumulated early on.

Same air group, flying CAP 50%, Rest 30%

100% training, altitude 1000 feet, zero range except for dive bombers so they won't be training on Low Naval unless you are Japan getting ready for Kamikazes.

Not entirely comparable as I have mine training 100% sweep at 5000ft, 0 range since 7 December and that’s all they’ve done.

As far as I can tell, training sweep or escort at 5000 feet give the same results.

IIRC, there is a die roll involved each turn in how many points are accumulated toward the next level of skill or experience. A series of better than average or worse than average die rolls would explain the difference in gains.

Strikes me as odd that none of the pilots in your training group has accumulated any fatigue what so ever. Even at range zero I usually see some fatigue accumulation. Not a real answer Jochen but you might bump the range out to 1 for just a turn and see if that jump starts the group and gets the fatigue up off zero?

Just noticed that training does not add missions.
Those who gain exp and skills also gain fatigue, so...

He is flying CAP as well as training. At that time, there is no need for CAP in Alaska but without looking it up, I do believe that flying missions may affect future training. He would be better off setting the training to 100%, an elevation of 1,000 feet seems to be best to raise the defense while also training for A2A skill, and when their skill is at 70 then put them on strafe at 100 feet to improve both the strafing skill as well as their defensive skill.

I have not found Strafing skill for fighters very useful.
Fighter-bombers and Attack Bombers have use for that, however.
Pure fighters and other bombers suffer morale hit when attacking low level and at low level flak can be brutal.

The idea is that the defense skill increases faster that way than any other way. But against transports or barges with no CAP, the fighters can hit hard.
