Max pop calculation, also impact of mixed race worlds questions

The only guide to calculating max pop I can find states that is outdated, does anyone know the calculation or where to find an up-to-date guide?

I am curious as my homeworld size 4,575, quality 62%, suitability 47% (Ackdarian on deep water) has theoretical max from the planet page of 8,165M but in fact tops out at 9,291M. Do homeworlds get a hidden bonus?

An independent human world I colonized (continental), size 5,149, quality 72%, suitability 32% (Human) 22% (Ackdarian) has a theoretical max of 12,071M, hit max at 8,112M. How badly does having a mixed race world screw up max pop? It's almost all humans, 7,934M, does having a measly 177M Ackdarians make a noticeable difference?

Is it all about suitability, and quality doesn't matter except indirectly by helping determine suitability? Does the planet type do anything in terms of max pop, i.e. if a high quality volcanic world gives me the same suitability as a lower quality ocean world as Ackdarian, would the max pop be the same, assuming both were the same size, or would I get more an an ocean because Ackdarians like floor is water but not floor is lava.

Suitability affects max population (along with size). So yes, if you have a mixed race planet, the less suitable race will take up more space than the more suitable race, lowering the planet's max population cap.
