Ranges (units of measure)?

I just want to check:

Weapon and halt ranges: yards

Aerial altitude and flak: feet

Aerial flight range: miles (one way; clean in transit mode)

Ground vehicle range: <not stated as this is to dependent on terrain/weather conditions>

Hex: 10 miles end to end

Thank you.

Unit is a recurring question. Is it not possible to include this directly in the interface?

There is enough room to put a column named RNG(yd) instead of RNG. Same could be done with feet i.e. (ft). Like this, all questions are answered in the minute.

There is enough room to change ALT to ALT(ft).

Yes, it is confusing.

And I wonder why the metric system was not used.

Just read that Germany adopted it in 1872 (some states even before) and Russia in 1918 :)

For some reason, switching data to the metric system is provided only in the editor. Such a switch should be in the game settings.

Yes, although I grew up in the USA ... wargaming made me go metric. It would be nice to have units displayed and have a UI switch.

Personally, as an amateur pilot in real life, I can't conceive of altitude in anything other than feet. ;)

But, I have posted a request to add all units in the interface:

Maybe I am missing some screens, if you would like to complete this post, feel free to do it.

OK, but in this game case ;)

Indeed, so the best is to display units directly in the game interface.

To me, it's an issue since WITPAE.

Being European, I am accustomed to the metric system only and all these mph made me mad for years! :D

Still nowadays, I know by heart all the statistics of every Japanese piece of equipment but I have no clue of their metric correspondent at first sight. I know, for example, that my beloved Tojos do 376mph, but I have to use the calculator to know how much is it in km/h and thus have a rough idea of what does it mean.

Only thing I know by heart is NM and knots because I'm an avid sailor: the rest is rather unintuitive to me.

I'd love to have a 'preference' allowing me to switch to metric. Actually, it doesn't change much in gameplay terms, but it easies the processing (and storing) of information for European players (and whoever uses the magnificent metric system).

Since I do believe that literally every country involved in the game used the metric system, I feel it right to have it there.

Yeah having a preference to see good old miles, yards, feet and inches is much better then seeing a bunch of weird metrics values :D

On the other hand, as far as I can tell, armor statistics are given in mm for everyone.

At least, that's what it seems like. F.ex. the magnificent Panzer III-j has '49' of frontal armor, which I do infer is 49mm.

Tanks&co all seem in millimeters. Do you americans measure armor in mm just like us?

I think we have used both, back in WW2 and Korea I am pretty sure they used inches, we also had calibrs like the .45 colt, .30 cal and .50 ma duce. But I think most Americans in general do a quick mental conversion, we all know and we’re taught the English system and the metrics system has never really caught on here but we have a rough understanding of cm and mm. But I think we mostly guess when some one says 100 meters we just think of it around a 100 yards lol. So most of the folks I know think in terms of inches, feet, yards and miles and just equate metrics to that lol.

In the us Army we used meters for distance (klics) and all the maps were meters. At least in the 80's and 90's. Not sure what they use now. It was a mix of metric and standard. Industry is the same way now, a mix of metric and standard.

Scientists tend to use metric all around. But if they mistakenly mix them this may end in a costly desaster. I remember a Mars probe crashed into Mars because of mixed-up units.
air force and navy probably still use imperial units just like their civil counterparts.

Well, if only for historical roleplay reasons, all measures should be metric on the Eastern Front. For UK & Sons theaters, obviously the venerable imperial system could be tolerated. ;)
My personal grudge since WitE1 is converting miles to hexes for aicraft range. Oh well..
