german airstrike crash investigation

Hi Steve,

I get feedback from H2H players of my Radzymin44V2.01 mod for LSA that game crashes after airstrikes happen frequently (always with german planes).
Other H2H players who play an old version of the radzymin44 mod (V1.04) have had no airstrike crashes.
All players have 6.00.03 version (or higher) of LSA game, german planes and their weapons are copied from the LSA data into my radzymin44 mod.

I'm investigating now what could be the difference.

In your description of update 6.00.03 you specify:

Changelog:
• Fixed potential crash caused by duplicate weapons firing during airstrikes in multiplayer
games.

Could you provide more information about this fix?
Wich weapon(s) during airstrike do you think are the cause of this crash?
Was the fix implemented in the game engine code or by data changes in vehicles.txt or weapons.txt?

Thanks in advance

Aetius

Hi Aetius -- sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I was away last week.

In CC multiplayer almost all simulation events are resolved on the host and the client is sent the results for display. In this specific bug the 'fire weapons' code was executing on both the host and the client. This could result in synchronization issues since the client would shoot weapons (and potentially hit targets) that had not happened on the host.

Assuming the players reporting this issue all have 6.0.3 this is not the source of the problem. The fact that is is German aircraft only makes me suspect the data values for the aircraft or weapons may be involved, or perhaps some of the game assets (sprites/shadows.) I would double check the data indexes in the data files to make sure they're all pointing to the correct weapons and such, and confirm that the data files point to the right sprite/shadows.

Forgot to mention that all crashes happened in H2H play, none in single player, so the data indexes in the data files pointing to the correct weapons and the data files that point to the right sprite/shadows are OK otherwise we would also have crashes in SP.
We've now had crashes with the Me-109 and the FW-190, always german planes never allied, the weapons used by the german planes are also used on the allied planes.
The german player was the host.
