Couple of m-109s, 6 hexes away, visibility is 8 and, they can see the target hex , I cannot get them to direct fire on the target hex, when I try it just gives me the crosshairs and sets up an indirect fire mission....

Are they parked in a Jungle hex?

No sir they are in qualified firing hexes, scrub usually, , maybe the hex being fired upon has to contain a 'spotted ' unit perhaps that is one that hasnt gone to ground and disappeared...I am just guessing though, I 'assume' you can you if visibility, fire upon any hex with a arty unit?

But some arty units are indirect fire only, right Jason?

I couldn't say if this applies in your case.
